What pisses me off is that I never got to experience Naughty Prince. I didn't become a fan until the 90s. The nasty glory days had already gone. Thank goodness for the music. . .he was such a dirty little bitch. . .I just love it. . .

I mourn the rational, more mature fans who aren't stuck in a time warp and don't expect a man almost 45 years old to parody himself by continuing to hump his bed on stage, and talk about fucking the taste out of Marsha's mouth.

I totally miss the old Prince, though I definetly respect where he is today. I've been thinking about this for the past 2 days and I've been trying to figure out what's been missing in his current music for me and I figured it out. There is a "fun" element in his music that I haven't genuinely heard from him since 95. Everything to me seems like he's either trying too hard (Emancipation, Rave Un2...) or he's being too serious (TRC, even stuff on ONAL). I miss hearing Prince get weird and experimental on me. I wish that he could put that party vibe back into his music again. Even if he talks about God or politics, he can make it funky and fun (God Is Alive) but still put it in a way that isn't so alienating (SOTT the song, Anna Stesia). I just want to hear Prince have some fun in his music again.
I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

Yeah, but to know we'll never see that energy and HUNGER again can be a downer sometimes. I, like some other people, respect whatever decisions he makes for his personal life. Good for him. But it has seemed to affect his showmanship and the power of his music, which is the bad part (though being musically burned out and getting older has a lot to do with this too).

I mean, Prince spoke religion all the time, and it didn't bother me then, but it wasn't ALL he spoke of. What I mainly miss is some sort of SHOW to see, i.e. some choreography to go along with excellent musicianship!!! Sigh...back to his birthday gig in Detroit in '86 for me... smile

December7, You hit it right on!

I still love the 'new' Prince, but the 'old Prince is who I fell in love with, and I wish he would be the old Prince again on stage, but I just go back and look and listen to the 'older' material.Plus the old material didnot include Larry.

I liked Prince better when he was cussing and dancing in his underwear. In those suits, it's kind of like, "What's he really like?

His spiritual/religious tone is definitely @ its strongest but I don't consider TRC a straight up "religious" album. Then again, I guess he'd never do anything completely traditional, would he? smile Maybe that's why it still sounds good to my ears b/c it's not your standard "praise the Lord!" delivery & I don't feel like I'm being preached to...

No. The old Prince was cool for what he was, just as the
new Prince is. Just look at yourself and how you've grown
and or changed through the last 10 years. I think it's a
bitch if you're an artist of any kind and have people
cling on to stuff of 10 or 20 years ago and keep picking
it over more recent stuff.

It's cool to jam to the old stuff but the new stuff isn't
by defenition crap just because it's [radically] different.

Taken for what it is, without over-analising the lyrics,
TRC is a masterpiece, no doubt.

I don't think it would benefit much from swearing and I
think it would lose a lot of it's "concept" if the deep
voice narration or the blatant religion was somehow a bit
watered down.

Same way Anna Stesia wouldn't work with an added rap
about the scripture.

i agree with U purplecam except that there was a "fun" element to Prince's music at live Paisley Jams since 1995. But NOW, even that 'fun' has come to a stop. sad

lol Nice try...

You still fail to tangle with issues. You rely on only insults to "save face".

I've yet to call you anything (beyond what's true).

Only the truly "crooked and evil" handle defeat this way..

Keep it coming... I want to see you melt into the evil, pathetic, pile of sludge that you've become. Reveal yourself (your true nature to Prince.org!)

I've seen your picture.

You should be able to be a mother!

I am with you on this one, there are too many people who thingk the shitty music he has been putting out the past decade is his best ever. Sorry crap like NPS, Emancipation or TRC to me doesn't hold a candle to his older stuff. Sure on a technical level TRC is incredible but it is nowhere near as fun to listen to than his older music.

Yes I mourn the old Prince, the old Prince made music people WANTED to hear. Now he makes music the he THINKS people SHOULD hear. The fun in his music is gone, sure there are few songs that hint to it but it still ulitimatly falls flat.
