'I Wonder’ Leaves One of Prince’s Greatest Valentine’s Un-Mailed: 365 Prince Songs in a Year

I just heard this song yesterday for the first time. It's exquisite! I love the layered vocals! The sound is crystal clear on this version, too.

I like this series but I wasn't crazy about them calling Anna and Mayte blank slates and implying their last names being the same was part of the appeal to Prince. Anna and Mayte couldn't be more different in terms of cultural background. In fact, Anna is part sicilian and british. (so the Garcia last name was probably a coincidence...he convinced Anna to change her name after all) Its a funny thing but according to Anna, Lemon Crush was based on her love of all things lemon and Prince getting her Lemon Crush for the first time. They weren't just blank slates. They were people. He noticed things about these young women; their quirks, idiosyncracies, blossoming professional development (anna had some experience and her mom was a singer, mayte had dancing experience obviously) . Their innocence and youth was obviously appealing to him as well. BUt, I like to think it wasn't just because he was some horny, insecure, and controlling dude who liked virgins [Rock stars getting virgins usually doesn't require the kind of waiting around/patience from said rock star and career favors that these young ladies received. A rock star could just grab some random, pretty, barely-legal groupie and ask for her I.D. card or just screw an under-aged girl and pay off their family for their silence] but more so because he thought they were charming young women seemingly lacking in maliciousness, cynicism, or calculating natures [dude might have been a bit naive about 18 year old girls and going through an early midlife crisis that never entirely ended.....LOL.) I am not trying to romanticize those relationships really or even condone them; I just happen to think he romanticized those relationshps himself--at least for a little while-- and thought a young woman whose given the good life (and groomed to fit into his lifestyle) would stick around. Mayte did. Anna smartly did not (when he was unfaithful>)

This song was on the menu of a bootleg DVD I used to watch a lot around 2004. I never knew anything about the song, including its name, but always loved it. Finally discovered more about it because of this topic!

I love this song so much. I'm trying to work up a solo acoustic version to play but I'm having a hard time making it sound good because it's not easy to match those vocals. I need some cool back-up singers!

At any rate, this song is one of my favorites. It always makes me happy.

I've always loved this song, and I occasionally play it out of nowhere by itself and sing snippets of it to myself pretty regularly--but I was surprised when I played it after this thread and reading the article. My wife, who isn't a particularly huge Prince fan, was singing along by at least the beginning of the first chorus, pretty strongly. So that was cool--and I guess I've played the song more than I realized.

definitely one of the favorites here.
(but radio-ready it's not by a mile, it need a remixed intro just like Moonbeam levels could have used. Like The Reflex by Duran Duran did)
