Thanks, will check this out now. Prince really had a strange relationship with his fans. But in hindsight he was more positive than negative toward them, except for those horrible late 90s years.

I disagree he tried it on Purple Rain, still nobody was really was amazed. He was about to release Gold, got the craziest guitar in the world and played more than he sang from then on. Remember that 94 Guitar World quote? "I always wanted to be thought of as a guitarist"👊🏼🎤

those horrible late 90s years. When prince opened up Paisley Park every weekend, every Saturday, every Friday, and fans could get in (some times for free) and watch the master perform for 3+ hours routinely. There is an argument to be made that Prince was never as close to his fans as he was in the late 90s.

You´re talking about the mid 90s....I´m talking about 98/99, the lawsuits, threats to fansites etc.

Things got much better again after that brief late 90s phase, and especially during the ONA/Rainbow Children phase when he opened Paisley Park again for the celebrations. But remember that many fansites who heavily supported him back then were under threat, or ceased to exist.
