I love this song regardless of the legend of it. Not because of it either, it is a mammoth emotional wallop of a track, though. Somehow when it was described by people (Susan included), I thought the melody itself would go differently but the way it goes is better than what I was picturing, if that makes sense...the original version must've really been something judging by this one... | |

It's an excellent song, unique and quirky even by Prince standards. I suspect that what Susan Rogers heard was a greater, more stripped more emotionally direct version. And she likely got caught up in the moment which was no doubt sublime, hence the hyperbole in her recollections. Hearing this track today, imo, it's not all that (what could be?) but it's nevertheless excellent. I like how he sabotages his own confession right there in the lyrics: just when he tackles the most critical question (why did my baby leave?) at the most vulnerable moment, he diverts to how funky Wally's glasses are. And Wally this version we have musically still fits within the sounds of the 1985-1986 period.

I do hear a bit of Go and Splash in A&B. But A&B and Wally share more similarities with songs like Crucial and Adore. All songs he did on his own, with added horns, but definitely without the band. The wooh is on the one! | |

Great song, shame about the sound quality. I feel i need to hear it in better quality to fully appreciate it.
