Great songs on weak albums What are some of your favourite songs on records you don't love as a whole? I am not suggesting that these albums are poor but i am not that inclined to listen to them in their entirety very often. Nonetheless, they contain some of my favourite songs. Some of mine would be:
"I'm Yours" "When the lights go down" "When eye lay my hands on you" "Zanalee" "Sticky Like Glue" "Joy in Repitition"

Guitar Zannalee The Holy River She Spoke To Me Empty Room Baby Knows It's a hurtful place, the world, in and of itself. We don't need to add to it. We all need one another. ~ PRN

Best answer in my opinion. planet Earth seems so tepid overall but it has a few real gems and SHOE is indeed a masterpiece.

I like the album Musicology. Weird how fans have such varying tastes.

There's a block of songs on there that are simply fantastic - Illusion Coma Pimp and Circumstance, then What Do U Want Me 2 Do?, The Marrying Kind and If I Was The Man In Ur Life...that 1-2-3 combination is terrific.

Total agreement about that wonderful song sequence As far as mediocre albums, I would add 1. Dark on Come 2. The Last December on TRC 3. June on HnR1 4. Old School Company on MPLS Sound

I agree absolutely. I was surprised how much I enjoyed that album when I finally listened to it in its entirety. It wasn't all that beloved on here so i assumed it would be tepid like Planet Earth ended up being for me...instead I found the songs catchy, funky, organic and sincere. Dear Mr. Man (for its lyrics) and Life of the party (for everything about it) were the weak spots to me but most of the other songs were a lot of fun. 3121 is cooler but Musicology was just a fun, pleasant non-pretensious album.

Not my cup of tea, they're all a bit average to my ear. Each to their own of course though! Off Musicology i like On the Couch a fair bit as well. [Edited 10/2/17 13:27pm]

Prince never made a weak album

Right? such a great song. I wish Prince had made an entire album with this sound and lyrics, it could have been in Come album as well.

Each to their own, of course. I like the melody of What do you want...it reminds me of the soundtrack to Gregory's Girl (the finest film ever made), the other two hit the right note for me....and see, On The Couch...not so much. Prince: music for all people!

We just have our differences of opinion as to what is weak and what is strong. Prince made many excellent and very good albums, some good and never any average albums as there would always be something quirky/ leftfield/ out-of-the-norm by him. A weak album? No, he never made one of those, unless you follow the muso's herd and regard such albums as Chaos & Disorder and 20TEN as poor. Which they ain't. Far from it. Prince was an exceptional artist, the greatest of all time.
