Had he released it, it's very likely it would have been overdubbed/reworked, as proven by many early bootlegged, "raw" versions of released songs.

.

It was also recorded by Tony LeMans, and intended for release his first album before Prince got pissed at him for dating Ingrid and took the song back. Had it been kept for the record, though, it's very likely that David Gamson would have polished it a lot in order for it to fit with the rest of the record.

.

On a side note, all hails to Ingrid who managed to have an affair with Prince, then thru Prince meet and have an affair with Tony, then through Tony meet and have an affair with Lenny Kravitz, then through Ryuichi Sakamoto (whom, I assume, she didn't date, but who knows), met, had an affair and eventually married David Sylvian. I don't mean it as a sexist or cynical comment or anything: if I'd been in the position of dating a succession of beautiful, famous and talented female stars when I was in my early 20's, and end-up marrying one, I would definitely have done it!

She had fun in her 20s that is for sure. She said she rode with Prince back to Paisley from the city. He sent her back to the city by herself and she went to see Lenny who was in town and got on his bus and left town with him.

Always wondered if he was not a set up.

She definitely does not have to justify her love - lol. She obviously had something, and I agree if I could have met beautiful and talented female stars, and be their +1, I would definitely have gone with the flow.

Fuschia Light never grew on me, but I will give it a listen again. I like the title, and reminded me of Prince's clandestine goal to use every letter for a song title, and work in an extended vocabulary into his songs (either deliberate or a consequence of his vast catalogue and love of learning)

I really love it, has the classic Lovesexy feel even though its a few months later. It would have appeared on the original Rave album had Batman not reared its ugly head.

.

I am sure the fuscia light was about a light he had on the background while he was having sex or a particularly radiant part of the female anatomy.

.

Closest to perfect version is "Fuschia Light#2" on "Perfect Unreleased Prince" still probably the best bootleg out there for unreleased stuff.

Got some kind of love for you, and I don't even know your name

I'd totally forgotten that there were 2 versions!!! The sound quality on that one is indeed a huge improvement over the original leak (which, it seems when comparing the 2, was also slowed down).

.

I doubt it would have been included on Rave, at least I am not aware of any reason to believe that: it wasn't included on any known configuration, and the fact that it was offered to Tony shows that Prince had little interest in using the song himself.

nod

After he found out Tony slept with her I bet he was like to HELL with that song, just reminding him of the situation. Good song though. I could have seen Tony singing it. I loved Higher Than High.

And again, like many of his greatest songs, you have the vocal overdubs of his voice and at least one track with falsetto call and response vocals. Add in the raunch and narcissim and you have perfect Prince.

Funny, but it's actually one of my fave boots.

Takes my mind back to the LoveSexy / Batman era.

Funky, sparse but with a lot of tracks in the recording. Love the horns and that bridge.

Have to admit, I sometimes lisen to this song with my LEDs set on fuchsia
