Ending parts of songs

I'm a dude who likes the whole damn song, even the endings.

Like 'How Come You Don't Call Me'...as its fading, "Why on Earth, can't you just pick up the phone, yeah. YOU. KNOW. I. DON'T LIKE. TO BE ALONE. WHYYY? WHY?? Why must you torture me, babe? Why you can't pick up that phone girl? Oooh, hoooh.

Like the end of 'The Question of U"...I turn up the radio to listen to the fading distortion guitar and last few notes.

Raspberry Beret(album version)..."Wee. I think I loveeeeeeee...

Rock Hard In A Funky Place...Guitar at the end, as it fades. Then, different music brings it back. "What kind of fuck ending is that?"

Anybody else with me?

I always thought the ending of Do Me Baby was odd, the synth music and bell sound is eerie to me ever since I was young.

I love horror movies from the 70s and early 80s and that ending has that touch

.

I just finished listening to Father's Song from the PR Deluxe and some sound from that could have been in Halloween 1

.

That ending of Do Me Baby (the masturbatory scene) was dark and cold and lonely. And something about that bell gave some kind of 'To Whom Does the Bell Tolls' -feeling of doom.

.

And the when you listen to Power Fantastic and Shockadelica (dealing with the same thing) it is like he has this dual Doom/Dark God/Love connection with the subject.

the musical ending of God the Love theme sounds very much like International Lovers ending

The ending of "Can't Stop This Feeling I Got" from Graffiti Bridge is so funky. The song is pretty good itself, but the ending break into the last 20 seconds absolutely bumps. I wish there was an extended version!

I'm with you! Prince didn't fade-out songs that often, which I'm glad about tbh, but I love those final bits of drama on "How Come U Don't Call Me Anymore?". Also the ending of "International Lover" - "Remember, next time you fly... fly the international lover' or something like that.

What a fool i am, that's one of the most beautiful endings. I wish it were longer, much longer actually. And those vocals at the end as well. Not just the guitar.

I wish he wouldn't have done that with HCYDCA, could have been better it didn't fade out.

"In This Bed (I Scream) has always been a go to for me. I know it doesn't fit the fade out ending that the OP mentions but I love that ending as it's a bit of a departure from the rest of the song.

Ha!

You probably just don't want the song to end. I'm with you, if that's the case.

Some favorite endings: Mountains (Extended), Forever in My Life, Anotherloverholenyohead (Extended), Time, Rainbow Children, Come, Thieves in the Temple (Remix), Dark.

The best one ever has to be Crystal Ball when Prince (Camille?) joins in on the "oooh" vocals. Especially on the sparse version, without the orchestral stuff. Absolutely sublime.

Yeah fade-outs are lame, which is another reason I hate the radio-edits on the 4EVER collection.

But at least in HCYDCMA it felt like I was getting a tiny extra bit of song, just by cranking up the volume. It's like an easter egg smile

There's probably others similar as well, I like the way they seemingly end but then come back with a new little section

There's something about the ending to Something In The Water that I really like.

"I do love you... or else I wouldn't go through all the things I do" as the gorgeous synths close out the song.

My funk is multi-layered. Don't stop me now.

What about the New Power Generation Maxi, where at the end of Love Left, Love Right, it sounds as if there is a fall in the studio?

LOL I haven't heard that song in its entirety in so long that when I heard it today I though someone was fighting outside my window lol

then I played it back, and then thought maybe I have a 'fan' made edit of the song?

It sounds like someone the Dull Guy got pushed down a few stairs or something lol

that is what they show in the video. It's in the album and the long version. I do not know what is being said though, by whoever said the words.

.

I do resent you now though, for making me listen to that awful, overly cliche song. Both musically and lyrically it is simply a bad copy of a rock/pop song from the before time. It could be a parody even. The Vanity 6 album is probably Prince's worst (and yet, it has Nasty Girl, one of his greatest tracks), and this track is a perfect example of why.
