Is there a studio version of "It's gonna be a beautiful night"? I don't know if this question has already been answered before. Also where is the album version taken from? Is the full show on a bootleg? Oh and one more question. Was it Wendy that said yea when Prince said "let's get outta here" on play in the sunshine? Thanks a lot purple peeps.

It was during the Parade Tour this song came about as a jam, but Prince turned it into an actual song for SOTT. The original didnt have actual lyrics and verses like the released version does. its highly possible there is no actual studio version. Much of the original was still used in the released version with overdubs for horns, vocals and Sheila E's rap.

It is also the last song they recorded together before they broke up, to my knowledge.

I was at the show in Paris when it recorded, and to be honest, it was very forgetable at the time, without the overdubs. It was just, 'one of those' long jams. .

Its roots are in the extended jam section of 'Baby, I'm a Star' from the Purple Rain Tour. . Extended jam and/or live instrumentals with later overdubs appear to have been a fascination of P's during 1986 ('Coco Boys', 'Data Bank', 'It's Gonna Be a Beautiful Night', 'Soulpsychodelicide'). . . Yes, UGSS even more immediately than BIAS. . There are also a bit of the basic themes in the 'White Girls'/'The Bird' 1983/84 rehearsals, to go even further back. . [Edited 9/20/17 18:01pm]

Were Eric and Matt there? I always assumed the horns were done live. . . What about Jill?

I assume Eric & Matt where there, since they were on the Parade tour.
The video I'm watching (I don't know Eric & Matt were there, not Jill, maybe she was at the one SquirrelMeat is talking about)

If you listen to the original jam, it becomes clear that the version on Sign of the Times IS the studio version. Paisley Park is in your heart - Love Is Here!

"It's Gonna Be a Beuatiful Night" was orders of magnitude funkier than "Baby, I'm a Star" - matter of fact it might just be the funkiest thing Prince ever did, depending on your mood and your life experience, etc it just might could maby even be the funkiest thing that EVER WAS. It's THAT BAD. A lot say they don't like it much, but to me it's the greatest thing on his greatest album, even the decidedly mediocre Sheila E. rapping (that would be her rapping, not Sheila in general LOL) cannot diminish by one iota it's true majesty. I love it!!! [Edited 9/21/17 19:44pm] [Edited 9/21/17 19:45pm]

Great point, hardwork. I agree. Prince did something incredible putting The Cross - IGBABN - Adore together. One climax after the next. But without 'Beautiful Night' the album would not work as brililantly as it does -- it's THE TOP of the mountain. Everytime I've listened striaght through, I always get so excited knowing it's coming! A funk masterpiece.

I think I've seen Jill and Susannah on the side, almost hidden by the curtain. It was not boring, in my souvenirs and my bootleg tape it was a hot funky jam.
