It's Gonna Be A Beautiful Night/SOTT Movie

Watching on Showtime now.

.

.

Always loved this version even more than the SOTT album version. But a few comments/questions:

.

.

1. Why does he pretend he's singing the verses in that falsetto? It's obvious it's oberdubbed by someone else or him sped up. Even the album version it's Jill overdubbed. What would this song sound like for real ?

.

.

2. LOVE LOVE when he and Sheila switch places, they do a little Morris/Jerome thing before he takes the drums. Then Sheila and Cat dancing!!!! LOVE!!!!

.

.

3. The little musicl riff---the one they repeat after "one more!". IS that from A Train? And then the other one that's similar but different (Sheila uses them now in Love Bizarre and cues them with "Strawberry" and 'Whip Cream" respeticelky).

.

.

3B before Prince actually says "A TRain" they do a little jazz bit. Whatt's that from?

Prince is still singing on that part in falsetto along with the female voice overdubs. It's melded into one, so on the live version it's easily him and maybe Cat or Boni singing in unison. They sang their parts to the audio they used from another show.

Go listen to "Take The A Train" song. You'll recognize the hook, and it's not the part you mentioned. That's just one of Prince's fills (although he might have lifted it from somewhere else, as he did many). It's the little horn break leading into the louder section where they're dipping down and standing back up before going into the final "BEAUTIFUL NIGHT...." chants near the end. He used during the opening of the Lovesexy Tour as well (during the end of "Housequake" I think).

I don't think it's true Prince singing live. It sounds like an overdub. HIs lip sychig is pretty bad too smile

I think they re did it later in the studio.

I find myself enjoying the live version on the Parade tour.
There is a version that is mostly Prince and the band just partying on the song.

Guitar and Drums

It's Gonna b a beautiful

gonna be a beauiful night(was mostly done on guitar with Wendy & Miko)

Prince kept the crowed singing and there was a lot of cheering.

I don't think it was from the same show that the album cut came from.

My guess is live that's how it really was. No high pitched verses a la Jill Jones or Prince falsetto overdubs.

Well, yes they have, as is common knowledge.

After the tour, Prince found out that there were multiple issues with both the original audio and video recordings, so a great deal of audio tracks were overdubbed, and many parts reshoot at Paisley Park in June and Summer 87. Regarding video, Leeds said about 80% of what you see in the film is from those reshoots, and some bandmembers' audio tracks were also rerecorded for each and every song (someone who witnessed the process, I can't remember who maybe Alan Leeds or an engineer, once said it was pretty amazing how they were able to replay their parts in perfect synch with the audio tracks that were being kept from the live shows). because of that, many fans have questioned whether this should be considered a live album at all, given how much was overdubbed in the studio. Poor lip-synching between audio and video have also often been a cause for complaint, for that exact same reason.

I do not know whether Prince's vocal parts on IGBABN specifically were rerecorded, but considering the amount of overdubs it wouldn't be surprising. However, there is no doubt about Prince's voice being there among others (most likely Sheila and Cat, as mentioned above).
