Diamonds and Pearls: Prince wants MEGA HITS! again and largely hits the bulleye but little is groundbreaking: C+

Symbol: Sprawling...but sort of gets tedious and boring...: C-

Hits, B-sides: Exhibit A of WHY PRINCE IS A GENIUS: A+

Come: Dark, angry, and bloodless...and charmless: D+

Gold: Prince rebounds after The Symbol Album; underratted and sort of amazing in its virtuosity: A-

For You - A - (REALLY got into this album in past year, having learned more about Prince's beginnings in industry, early writing process, etc. Never connected to it in prior years).

Prince - B+ (Several highlights)

Dirty Mind - A (obviously a career highlight, somewhat cut-and-dried)

Controversy - A (I've always preferred to dirty mind)

1999 - A (For me, the genius of this album is the non-hits. Lady Cab Driver, Something in the Water, Automatic. Damn.)

Purple Rain - A (Flows from beginning to end as seamlessly as Ziggy Stardust.)

ATWIAD - A (Rasberry Beret was my introduction to Prince, CONDITION OF THE HEART amazes me)

Parade - A+ (My all time favorite)

Sign of the Times - A (Never liked Gonna be a Beautiful Night; otherwise perfect.)

Lovesexy - A (Second Favorite)

Batman - B (Electric Chair is a favorite of mine)

Graffiti Bridge - B+ (Obsessed with Joy in Repetition, can take or leave most of the balance of album).

Diamond and Pearls - C (just don't feel this album at all)

- B (sometimes I think this is one of his best, other times I find it tedious. The album I am most torn on.)

The Hits - A+ (B SIDES!)

Come - A- (really like the darker edge. Almost a Velvet Underground vibe on this)

The Black Album - B+ (never got into it)

The Exodus - B+

The Gold Experience - A (LOVE the sound of the album. Wish I owned on Vinyl).

Chaos and Disorder - B (generally like it)

Emancipation - A- (Went nuts for this when it came out. Understand the criticism on production. In retrospect you can divide career "before Emancipation, after Emancipation")

The Truth - B (never grabbed me)

Rave Un2 the Joy Fantastic - B+ (Love the second half of the album.)

Newpower Soul - B (dismissed this originally, some of it grew. Late 90s were tough)

Art Official Age - A++ (BY FAR my favorite album post-Lovesexy. Kind of interesting to view this record released nearly two decades after Emancipation. The years that followed did not bring the domestic bliss celebrated on that record, had twists and turns, and a career resurgence. But, we hear the sound of a man who had lived many lives, and was clearly dealing with some real issues, after hearing Breakdown I knew this was a next level work. Religious conversion had not brought the inner peace it had promise, and from that pain came some phenominal art. I believe this was meant to be a final statement.)
