Saw "PR" with my bandmates and few friends...we were underage but the lady at the ticket booth was cool and let us in...decent ammount of people in the theatre...............Saw "UTCM" at the "popular shopping mall" movie theatre and it was PACKED. People were singing and clapping along with the songs...........Saw "GB" a few years later at the same theatre and there were only 3 other people there. |

Under The Cherry Moon never made it to my local mall... "Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination and life to everything." --Plato

Both times I went with my homies. A group of about ten of us went to see Purple Rain, and a group of five of us went to see UTCM. For the record, my best friend and I went to see Sign "O" the Times at the $1 theatre after we had seen it at the regular theatre. While it was at the $1 theatre, we saw it sixty times in thirty days, watching the 7:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. showing. After the tenth day, the theatre manager stopped charging us the $1 as long as we purchased popcorn. Then, after the twentieth day, he stopped making us pay for popcorn. So, for the last ten days of the showing, we saw the film for free with a free bag of popcorn. FYI, I saw Graffiti Bridge alone. I couldn't drag anybody to see that flick with me. Still, I enjoyed it.
Damn, that sounds like me going to see Purple Rain at the dollar theater when I moved to another state! LOL They didn't show Sign 'O The Times any where near me unfortunately...

Yeah, I was so pathetic that I actually dated a girl because her mom had a Beta machine when Purple Rain was released on Beta and VHS. Then, I actually ended that relationship to date a girl whose mom had a VHS player. Damn, I was dog. I know I should feel bad about it, but there just weren't that many houses in da hood with Beta of VHS players. |

I don't think I saw "Purple Rain" properly till I was about 16?
Before that I saw maybe a few scenes here & there.
Although, the "Answer me mutha " scene always stood out in my mind for some reason. "Under The Cherry Moon" I didn't see till 10 years later in 1996. |

Pretty sure I went to both with my college roommate. But I might as well have been there alone. Once Prince appeared on the screen, it was just him and me. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves. |
