Prince's Earnings: $18 Million In 2017

https://www.forbes.com/sites/zackomalleygreenburg/2017/10/30/princes-earnings-18-million-in-2017/#19946d115b48

The Purple One's earnings took a dip from last year's $25 million total--he passed away while still at the top of his touring game, grossing nearly $2 million per show, which was factored into his final tally.

This year Prince clearly had no live dates, but his haul would have been much greater had a $31 million record deal with Universal not been reversed earlier this year. As is, he still collected millions from a new publishing deal and continued consumption of his music.

Forbes has no idea how much money the estate earned last year. They’re just guessing.

They are looking at royalties and taking a guess from that. Also remember Prince's entire catalgoe is avalible for streaming and streaming actually collects good info. It does not mean the artist always get paid correctly but it can provide a good estimate. They are checked in with Billboard who also keep track of this stuff.

Forbes in not TMZ.

No but unless they have tax returns they don’t know. It’s all estimates.

This has nothing to do with taxes it has to do with purchases via streaming and retailers and taking a guess on royalties. They also can only guess at fees for music used in movies, commercials and television shows. Also a guess at what was earned outside the U.S.The estimate could be low and you then need to lob off the taxes. The point is that revenue is being generated take a look at some of the estates of the other artist.

—Keep in mind they are also selling real estate and installment payment can arranged so I think the estate will be fine. MJ had a Trust but he had a lot debt that had to be paid off first and his estate is doing great.

That figure of $2m per gig is why I always get confused with the estimates of his income.
I mean (I've tried to find) how many gigs did he do in 2016 for P&M tour. He even dud an arena whilst in Australia. I mean that's two months and he would have earned more than Forbes estimate even without external earnings

And production costs couldn't have been any lower for Prince than that tour

We know he did a show at the Oracle Arena that sold out. That is a 18k arena and some tickets went for as much as $500.00. He had contracts to do nine more shows one of which would have been at a large areana. I do not think he would have been interested in doing more shows if he was not pulling down a chunk of change.

The production cost for this tour was nothing and he had a small staff. Looking in the court docs he did not have millions of dollars in debt but not as much cash. So the real questions is were did he put the money from those shows especially the Oracle show.

I'm wondering whether he had offshore money I.e. His Caribbean mansion meant he could bank over there

I think he may have because those P&M shows did well for him and he did not have more than $900,000 in the bank. I think Caymen or Swiss Bank accounts or just sent off to some charity. Where ever the money went it appears to be unavalible to his sibs and I do not think that is a coincedence.

Of course it does. A tax return is where you will find an accurate reporting of income. Why do you think Donald Trump refuses to release his tax returns?

What I mean is a tax return would show all of his earnings including the sale of real estate this year, income the estate is making from PP, and this exhibit. Forbes is estimating roylaites based on the amount of music he sold they would have no idea about other transactions they estate has undertaken. Also in the most recent court docs Comerica claims they have 5 deals pending so more potential deals Forbes would not know about. So this has nothing to do with his what is going to turn up on a tax form. Like I said this number might be a little low since the year is not over and no one knows what deals are pending.
