The Rotterdam shows were pro shot. Susan Rogers managed to get the entire film recording tech together in one day. cool

the problem was that Prince's shows were simply not lit for recordings but for live shows. On top of that, they apparently did not get the right type of film resulting in a grainy dark result.

.

It's a shame really, as, to me, it gives the movie a definite "not live" feel. The little vignettes make things so much worse, of course, but even the performances themselves never really feel sparkling. (and the move to video from film for U Got The Look really drives the problem home)

.

I'd love to see the original film material, it'd be great to also hear a soundboard quality full show. And from the film, they'd be able to scan it to high def.. I'm interested to see if with current technology they'd be able to make something quite watchable out of it.

There is also a pan around of the crowd towards the end of IGBABN and the place looks half empty... Dunno why that slipped through the editing of the final "movie". Maybe a half empty arena is the real reason for reshooting it at PP. smile

I'll have to look again, but I thought that pan revealed an unbelievable amount of people all mimicking his hand moves.

well.. he'd done quite a few shows in the country just before and it was all very last second. Not sure if it actually was sold out, the way I remember it it was (almost) full. Then again, 6 shows in just over a week, and now 30 years ago, my memory is a bit hazy.

There are several shots showing a packed out arena. But this one shot has always niggled me. I think it is towards the end of Beautiful Night but it could be elsewhere. Havent watched it in ages... Yiou see the upper echlons that appear somewhat barren. Almost as if the shot was taken after the concert had finished and people were on their way out.

There's a very good one called Wonderboy.

Sadly not a full show, but 4DF released a great upgraded version of the 17.06 Paris show based on the Wonderboy boot wink

Funny thing about this - I was just at Paisley last weekend on the VIP tour. I was chatting with our... "guide" while we were in the soundstage, and was talking about that - refilming a large part of the show for SOTT movie. He wasn't really sure what I was talking about... whofarted

Bob... Ain't dat a bitch?

It would be interesting just to see the real performances for each track in the film.

Would be a good "extra" on a new deluxe edition, or something.

That section is film as well - not video - but the aspect ratio is different (not widescreen).

I wonder if this will ever get a proper rerelease in movie theatres; of all of Prince's films this is definitely the one I'd most be keen to see on the big screen.

It came to Toronto last year - a proper film copy, with quite a bit of dirt and scratches during Play in the Sunshine to prove it. Petition your local art house cinema to bring it to your town! cool
