Sister

I'm not sure how many actually like this song, but personally I feel sad that Prince had an experience in his childhood which resulted in the need for such dark lyrics - it makes me feel sick, just the thought....

It's a song I feel the need to skip - every time
sad

This is a post most should skip because of the sheer volume of conjecture on the OP's part.

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

I'm not crazy about the song either. Too much ish so i pass it by when it pops up in the rotation. I try not to think about it too much tho and hope he was being truthful when he stated in the past it is not auto-biographical.
It still makes one wonder though.

You people are weird (both you and the OP). Scarier than anyone who'd write a song like Sister if you ask me eek

Maybe this can help:

Anthoknee

I dig this track because it's cool musically and it's COMPLETELY open to any interpetation as to what is really happening in it....some hear pain in it, others hear an absence of it. As to whether any of this REALLY happened, you would hope not. There are so many levels in it's minute and a half that it raises way more questions than it answers. But it is AWESOME...

I luv Tick Tick Bang Bang - I enjoy the sexual songs and lyrics as much as I do the ballads but Thieves in the Temple and Sister r the only ones I skip.....

Don't get me wrong I have a large collection going back to when it all started, and have heard probably 90% of what was actually released so I know what he made and I don't like 2 songs that many probably do...

You ever heard of fiction? Not every song is a true story. Just like books. Some might even be fantasy that came from Prince's brain. Then what?

Ok please I'm not 5 please don't insult me - the thing I loath about the org is when others don't agree or like a post they want to attack a person instead of keeping to topic and having a decent discussion :(

I was under the impression that it was true - this theory came from another fan I once discussed the lyrics with when the song first came out and I hated it ever since.... confused neutral

C'mon - what 'Sister' is really saying is 'I can sing and wear and do whatever the hell I want'. Considering he was only a 22 year old with his whole career ahead of him - where did he get the confidence/nerve to do that?? And that's how he lived his life. He sang and wore and did whatever the hell he wanted his whole life.

Zach Hoskins just had a nice writeup about the song. It was definitely a song to get him noticed (by critics if noone else), and it worked...

.

For me, it's a good song for the album. It really fits and has one of the greatest segues to the next song Prince ever had.
