it appears it was financially worthwhile for WB....so why not do more now?????

Because it wasn't successfull at all. Last year 1999 sold 3 times less than Purple Rain. Outside the USA, it sold 5 times less.

.

So if PR deluxe sold only 130.000 worldwide, even with a dvd, let's do the maths for 1999.

.

If WB wanted to re-release 1999, they wouldn't way next year, with the physical market shrinking year after year. It would have been released this year, for the 35th anniversary. They have their own vault of unreleased tracks, so the ycould do it in a minute.

PR DELUXE only sold 130.000 world wide? Wasn't the first week sales for PR DELUXE around 90.000?

According to Mediattraffic it sold 94.000 the first week, but this numbers included :

- about 6000 ex in streaming only (including 4000 in the US)

- about 5000 copies of the original album, including mostly the vinyl version.

.

The US is the only chart in the world where it stayed more than 2 weeks in the top 100.

Ok so 94.000 worldwide first week... The second week U.S. sales add those up it already is much more than your ESTIMATE again... It has sold much more than 130.000 world wide since its release.

The second US week sales was 12,627 copies, including, again, the original album that sold mostly on vinyl. Purple RAin was already out of the top50 everywhere in the world, besides the US and Netherland.

.

The 3rd week it sold 6047 copies, and was litterally out of the top 100 everywhere in the world (#99 in the Uk to be precise).

.

The vinyl of the original album is the only thing of Purple RAin that is ranked in the Uk.

Btw for some perspective: Madonna released a new album, a live recording from her "Rebel Heart" tour. It sold less than 4,000 copies (physical & digital) last week.

I hope the RIAA recertify Prince album sales in the U.S.

THE VERY BEST OF PRINCE should stand at 3 million in the U.S. and PURPLE RAIN really should be certified at least 16 Million. It still has a 13x Platinum certification from 1996, never been updated since...

WB won't certify old Prince's album anymore, too expensive, and nobody cares beside you...and me.

Even Beatles album are not recertified anymore.

.

My predictions were right for 4EVER :

Retailer Report: Top 200 Albums

prince is the only artist who could conceivably release 5 albums at once and make up the difference in the industry by making money off 5 albums where 1 was before
