Remastering of Emancipation? I don't know much about the remastering of albums, but if Emancipation were to be remastered, would it take away the plastic sound of it.
Also, does anyone think that all of Prince's albums will be re-released in just certain Warner ones?
Any thoughts? | |

The "plastic" sound that most people allude to when they review this album is in reference to the production of the tracks (drum samples, synth textures, etc) and not so much the sonics of them, so unless you're talking about "remixing" the songs with newer elements, then, NO, it would do absolutely nothing. The album is a "1994-1996" album, so it will sound as such.

The drum programming would remain much the same. I wouldn't call it 'plastic' but it doesn't have the 'beef' and impact of the style of beats used before it, on 'Love Symbol', 'Come', 'TGE', etc. I think the production and arrangements changed a little when Tom Tucker and Ricky Peterson left.

. - Exactly. Unfortunately, Prince went too ´plastic´ for my taste with Kirky J around in the 96-2001 era.

It sounds plastic? Your disc must be dusty. Just wipe it of with a soft tissue, it should sound better afterwards.

did Prince ever say anything about the "sound" of this album? besides it was the album he was meant to make

It was Kirky J's and Prince's production. It would not sound better due to the tools he used at the time. The snares, drums and sounds didnt have punch or bass in them.
The songs are beautifully written and some of them great tunes, however it was the studio production that made this album sound so tinny and bland. Analog was replaced for digital, and we all know digital in the 90s was not a good thing. prince continued with those sounds too even after he was not coproducing, finally dropping them almost overnight with Rainbow Children finally. Album plays and love for vinyl records.

I wonder how many live in the studio versions there are of tracks off this in the vault? The Somebody's Somebody livestudio version is a massive improvement to my ears, it'd be interesting to compare some more tracks.

I bet it would sound beautiful on vinyl -- and the packaging could be stunning!

If it was going to be remastered, remaster to make it less loud and maybe bring other instruments to the fore. 2010: Healing the Wounds of the Past.... http://prince.org/msg/8/325740

The album BUMPED then.... an it do now
(had to invoke that type of speaking)...this is a ridiculous suggestion....it's a modern "master", and the sound is damn fine...
if any of his modern albums didn't sound that well, I'd nominate Lotusflow3r (though I've heard it sound great in digital editions) and 2010 (flat low fi) ...and the Indigo Nights cuts.... those could've sounded a little more crisp, if sourced from the soundboards ♫"Trollin, Trolling! I have no issues with how this album sounds - everything sounds pretty balanced, nice amount of loudness without going overboard, the songs sound even to each other.
