NPGMG Trax

I'm working through my digital collection and filing it all systematically (it's taken a couple of years now on and off when quite at work - don't tell the boss!) and gave just braved the NPGMC behemoth!

So I file stuff by year album_track number_title and working out how to name this stuff in that way is screwing with my melon, ahdio show, member tracks, premium member tracks nit to mention the videos..... And I know I haven't got all of it, but I need to organise what I have to find the gaps.

How have you peoples organised this lot in your collection, to give me some ideas for doing mine?

And what artwork to go with it? Definitely not the CD bootleg stuff!

Cheers Dave

I file all tracks chronologically with screen shots of all web pages with dates to verify release data information.

It important when cataloguing releases to also keep documented evidence.

Additional to my CD archive, I keep a Digital archive. This starts from 1997 with P's first exclusive internet only release.

Organise by release date (month). Princevault has all the jazz on dates etc.

Seems pretty simple. While there's a lot of stuff, it's no unmanageable. With the ID3 tags, go with this, possibly:

Artist: Prince

Album NPGMC

CD x of 12

Track 1 of X

Let them all be one 'album', and each month be its own CD, then number the tracks therein. The Ahdio show should be track 1, then just number the other tracks from that month as you wish.

The other option is to make each month its own album, period. So NPGMC February is 1 album, CD 1 of 1. NGPMC March is another album. Etc.

As far as file system on your computer, a folder per month it seems pretty logical. And all those folders in another folder simply labeled NPGMC. It's how mine is laid out. Naming the files - I'd simply go with "NPGMC01_Vicki Waiting.mp3" 01 being the edition (not the month's number because the the club started in February - 02, but the first edition would be 01). Then the name of the track. Use two digits for that number, too, so it stays in order in your file system.

As far as artwork, the stuff from Statik, an independent fan who did each month on his/their own is great stuff. So much in fact that even Prince's people contacted them about making their artwork official for the first year of NPGMC. But Statik kindly declined the offer.

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

PS Use PrinceVault for each month's release to be sure you get things group together correctly. It's all listed there. Dawnation might still have it listed, too.

Most of the stuff has been released under Chocolate Invasion or Slauighterhouse, however I just file the rest under "NPG Trax", especially thouse that were different versions of a already albumed track.

Album plays and love for vinyl records.
