Yeah currently sits at a cold $530.00 on discogs.com. It was only available in Europe. USA never made copies on wax.

I do not want 2 buy a copy, already have 2 of them plus the promo release.
But in comparision 2 other albums of that period ( Come, Rave Un2, Love Symbol, Black Album ) the prices r very high, so that could mean a low number of pressed copies....

LP's are only ever worth what someone is willing to pay for them. Just because I slap a $500 price on something doesn't meant someone will buy it. Lots of stuff out there like that. No record is worth anywhere near that. If you have years of patience, just hang back. Eventually everything worth having will be repressed and you can pick it up for a reasonable price. And not feel like a fool for blowing $500 a couple years ago on something you can get today for $30.

Of course records are only worth what people will pay for them. That's how all supply and demand works. And there certainly are records worth well beyond $500 because there are people willing to pay insane amounts of money to complete their collections. There are Prince records worth more than that. Sure, Prince record prices have shot up in the wake of his death, but that's just how the market has reacted. It may die down a bit over time. Someone paid $15k for the Black Album in June of 2016. If the going selling rate for the original Black Album is 15k, then that makes that pressing of the Black Album WORTH 15k.

And owning a repress is not the same as owning an original. It's all about exclusivity.

Thanks for the lesson I guess?

I own nearly 1400 records, tons of original, some repress. Mostly original. I didn't inherit them, I bought them over many years. So I know a thing or two. I also have a degree in finance and worked in finance for quite awhile, so I also know a thing or two about markets.

I've sold what essentially is junk for a small fortune, and practially given away things that should have gone for way more in my opinion - so yes, I understand how markets work. But thanks for the lesson.

Sometimes I must have the original, sometimes not. When the original is 500 effing smackers, that's a "not" situation. And in any case, if someone paid 15K for a first press Black Album, I find that to be pretty foolish. (There is one right now on discogs NM for 9K). But you know what they say about a fool and his money. Just my opinion of course.

Also I'm speaking from experience. I've been a vinyl guy for a long time, and have personally dropped hundreds on an original pressing of something only to see a pre-order email for a high quality reissue of that album plop into my email box a few months later. And it typically KILLS the market for those early pressings after that. Something like the Black Album is somewhat of an exception, given the bizarre history. But this thread was about The Gold Experience - not the Black Album.
