I think people are obsessive about 'the estate' as a deflection from the reality that Prince left behind a hot mess.
The constant rumination here seeks to normalize a very unfortunate, unnecessary and sad situation and enables many of the posters to pretend that Prince left things just fine. LOL.
Meanwhile, every dollar going to lawyers OR TAXES THAT COULD HAVE BEEN AVOIDED is a dollar that could have been earmarked for a PRN Trust for music education, genetic research, or whatever tickled his purple fancy. AND WE'RE TALKING ABOUT A BIG NUMBER THAT'S BEING FLUSHED DOWN THE TOILET.
Instead, we have this shit show of grifters, cons, purported heirs, legit heirs whom he barely spoke to, PP run by the Elvis folks (Face Down Like Elvis) and all manner of fuckeree.
That he chose NOT to have a will does not speak well of his grasp of reality.

Thats a very good QUestion and deserves an answer....
I dont get so caught up in the heir mess For me, I follow whats going on with the business side because my Work for the last 25 years involves setting up socio economies in India. I help people create business models that eliminate the middle man, or structure things in such a way that if there IS a middle man, (becasue sometimes there HAS to be one) he is forced to remain honest/non exploitative.
One of the key elements to these kind of models is that they have a triple bottom line. 1*Create innovative Products to "Sell" in a market place 2*Involve passionate individuals who become stake holders and allow them to profit by sharing a portion of the wealth generated from Sales 3*Skim the excess profits and , a) reinvest a portion and assign it to keep continuously innovating by being flexible and responsive to the market b) support social ventures or charitable organisations
When I came to know about NPG Music Publishing I had a Brain Flash and I think I can see exactly what Prince was hoping to do in the future. He was determined to keep his business OUT of the Corporate Pipeline, and I believe he left sooner than he thought and there are some things that he didnt get a chance to do, but from MY OWN experience I have a pretty good inkling as to where he was going.
Peer2peer marketing was one avenue that has great potential, however I believe the corporate thinkers know very well that if they set things up the way Prince was envisioning, it would effectively spell the end of the way the Music Industry is currently structured.
so...
Im here feeling frustrated every day, but rivetted at the same time because I BELIEVE I see What Prince was trying to do.

The link you posted is broken. If you are talking about the Gresham's and Venita, yes, it was discussed briefly.

It's just noise. Happens whenever any rich person dies. Shit, it happens when someone with 250 grand dies. Don't worry about it. It doesn't affect any of our lives.

which, IMO, is being thwarted and buggered up by the chaos and disorder of the estate. Judging by what has been released so far while general (not fan) interest was at a post-mortem peak; do any of you really think things are going to get better music wise?
Remember right after when Sheila E. volunteered to help curate the vault gratis? Now there's silence from her, no curation, no plan for curation, vague talk about doing an inventory of same...and who will be left to judge what is worthy of release, or musically noteworthy, or a must-have for collectors?...his siblings? A couple of whom admitted they had never even been to PP...think about that.

Thank you the voice of reason. Many people seem to have forgotten about what he was starting to do with peer to peer. For some reason there are people who want to believe he was planning on dropping dead on the 16th and that he was doing nothing but sitting in the basement of Paisley Park eating pain pills all day doing absolutely nothing else when there is plenty of evidence that tells us otherwise.

Actually he did have a Will....he just didnt write it down in the Normal every day way .
If you continue to look at things in mundane terms you will find a lot to whinge and whine about....
as YOU often do Bodhitheblack..
But of you get your head out of your proverbial and apply some creative thinking and your BRAIN....its not hard to see Princes WILL at all.

He had contracts which trump a will. One of those contracts (WB) is not going to be broken with some of the albums being licensed to WB forever. Means Prince got the final word.
If this Tidal deal is found to be valid Prince will get the final word until the deal ends.
These contracts were Prince's will. In addition, we have no idea if he placed any money in a trust.
Also a will would not have stopped estate taxes or the need for lawyers to assist with running the estate. Trust me will or no will people would be getting paid to handle estate business. All the good professional people have done since Prince died was generate lawsuits out of pure greed or imcompetence none of which Prince had anything to do with at all.
He had more assest then liabilities so he was not in a despearate finacial stituations. He appears to have been downsizing which would make sense because he was getting older and if he was dealing with health issues.
Some of you are not thinking about the amount of time and money that is being spent to break contracts Prince had in place and appeared from his own comments to be happy with.
We already saw the stuff Lonnie did to try and undermine the WB deal yet no one can see the same thing may be happening with the Tidal deal.
Crooked people trying to get their hands in the cookie jar.

I do not want to be involved on any level revolving the litigation concerning the estate. I never said I wanted to be and I am not sure why this makes you glad or you feel you need to even make that comment. I am sure you look at or read the news every day. Does paying attention to things going on make you obsessed with any of that information? As far as his family is concerned do you think they care what people on a message board think about the litigation? Do you not realize that this information is on the court website as well as being reported on in the news? Do you think the family reads those comments on the websites of newspapers? All financial details have been redacted and I suspect that is the only thing the family is concerned about anyone commenting on and we cannot because we have no information. Nothing I say or comment on will have any effect on how things are sorted out and I have no expectation of anything other than the court resolving these issues. I am free to state my opinion on these matters just like anyone else and since the moderators have made an estate topic I suspect I am putting my comments in the correct place. You are free to avoid this topic since you seem to think (correct me if I am wrong) that no one should comment on public documents and events because it annoys you.
I am not going to waste my time addressing all your nonsense because I simply do not care that you are annoyed or that others find me annoying. You are free to ignore me and if you need an ignore button to do so then what does that say about you as a person. I am not trying or have an interest in being the Queen of the Org and you need to question your sanity for even typing such a thing.
I have no words for your bizarre psychoanalyzes via the internet. I am just a fan not in the least bit obsessed and I have never said anything about Prince’s family that was insulting only what is already publicly known which many people like yourself are too lazy to even look up to see if it is even true. If you are going to criticize what I am saying at least check to see if it is true.
I also could care less about what is best for other people and do not recall giving anyone on the org advice other than go look something up for yourself since none ever believe anything. Please notice the questions marks and remember what they mean. Also, see podcast link making some of the issue with Tidal crystal clear. I am not the only person who thinks something underhanded is going on here and I am not the only person commenting on it.

According to Bodhitheblackdog Prince's life was in ruins and the rugs were not cleaned. I gather that this person thinks the pills made for poor decision making based on the comment below.
"Occam's Razor, people, he was popping too many pills to notice, he was a world-class know-it-all and he was paralyzed into inaction by his fears, ego and addiction." [Edited 9/7/17 9:02am]
