I think he was just tryna clean it up . Just like the cleaned up vocals n extra oohs during the sax solo. The latter is the only reason I would bump the released version. 30 minutes is too short 4 that groove .

Yeah, I just noticed that the first time the other day when listening to the 30 minute version. You can hear just a mumble on the official 12", but it's unedited on the 30-minute leak.

I'd agree it was just cleaning it up. Hell, look at the flubs he made on "I Would Die 4 U" and "Purple Rain" on that First Avenue tape.

on the extended version of IWD4U, he says "guitars and horns, drop out..", when he's shouting out directions to Miko, Wendy & Eddie M.... it comes probably about 20 minutes in, before some jazzy piano soloing starts.... its not on the 10 minute extended version...

OH---okay. Thanks for clearing that up. Yeah, I can see how i might have missed that. So, is it edited out of the released version just because the entire section is gone (what I think you're saying), or is the section there but the line has been specifically removed? I haven't listened to either one in a while, and I'm not really interested in doing so right now.

I am what I am--I'm gonna have to go listen to them. Just not right now (because another part of what I am is a big old procrastinator--and I'm lazy, and the hard drive they're on is at least 5 feet away from where I'm sitting).
