"Play In The Sunshine" followed by "Housequake": Genius!

I was just listening to "Sign O' The Times" and I just freaking love Prince.

First we have the joyfully goofy romp "Play In The Sunshine." Wheee, we're rockin' and rollin' the gorilla and the big white rabbit. It ends on a dreamy note and we're caught up in the spell, la la la la la la. Suddenly, the record scratches and that high-strung sexy bitch Camille shouts, "Shut up, already, damn!" and takes us on the most vicious funk workout of the past five years.

Don't you love this??
What other song placements do you think are genius?
Ooh! Here I go again, fallin' in love all over

It's really predictable, but I love how 'I Would Die 4 U' segues right into 'Baby I'm a Star'. No break, no pause to catch your breath; it almost seems like a 2 part song.

Just 'cause it's been said, don't make it less true. I love it, too. nod

'Eye No' into 'Alphabet St.'

'Family Name' into 'Everlasting Now' into 'Last December' - Triple Whammy!

And, strangely, 'Rave Un2 The Joy Fantastic' into 'Undisputed'.

One of my all time favorites was the transition between 1999 and Little Red Corvette. worship
Prince may be the purple Yoda, but Wendy & Lisa and Eric Leeds also sit on the Jedi Council.

Prince sure does love his segues...

some great segues:

Computer Blue-Darling Nikki
I would Die 4 U-Baby I'm A Star
1999-Little Red Corvette
Girls & Boys-Life Can Be So Nice
Christopher Tracy's Parade-New Position-I Wonder U
Lovesexy-When 2 R In Love

Of course there have been some 'not so great' ones too
like We Can Funk-Joy In Repetition,
and Eye No-Alphabet St. works, but could've been done
a lot better IMO. Now The Ball-Joy In Repetition did
work really well (even though I still prefer to hear
the full intro to Joy In Repetition).

Too sexy! Do elaborate.

it all just fits together--not by that little swooshy sound but the songs overall. it seemed like the 2nd side of the album shoulda been one continuous track, rather than tracked...hmm
