SOTT - "Peach and Black" meaning?

Was Peach & Black Prince's way of addressing issues of race or describing interracial love i.e. white and black? There's technically no such thing as "white" flesh in the same way there's no such thing as a "flesh" color crayon. In 1962, Crayola voluntarily changed Flesh to Peach in an attempt to avoid any legal issues and encourage people to embrace seeing the world in black and peach. Perhaps a riff on the song "Ebony and Ivory", too?

Sorry to take the deep meaning out of this but I heard in an interview somewhere that he adopted these colors because they were the favorite colors of Susanna Melvoin with whom he was involved at the time. I am sure however there may have been other considerations but that was one of the driving factors according to people close to him

Yeah, I think it was just the color scheme he was going with for SOTT.

I thought peach refers to tan, not to a default skin colour of white people's. In fact, lots of whites are really pale and peaches are darker than their skins.

I always thought it was a jungle love sort of thing. Like in You've Got The Look with Sheena Easton. A nice sexy innuendo game he plays.

Classic example of overthinking things. In this case it's simply the color scheme for SOTT and a lyrical reference to Sheen's outfit and his reaction to it (taken aback)

Susan Rogers said it were Susannah's favorite colors, that's why he chose them for SOTT.

keep in mind, that the guitar and Prince's shirt on the cover of SOTT is really BLUE not Peach

His shirt and the drumkit were blue, not the guitar...

I always assumed (I was 14 when it came out) that he was referring to peach, as in the color of Sheena Easton's skin, and black, the color I imagined her pubic hair to be. I thought that until I just read this thread. I think I still do.

I'm just saying...

I was 14. That was 30 years ago. Yeah, a Prince fan with a dirty mind at age 14, how bizarre.

Peach and Black were most likely the colors that were be more pronounced during the 'Dream Factory' era

Those colors were already being worn by 1985

Cat also said the peach outfit she wore was originally Susannah's.
