Have 2 agree - i tried to listen to it again the other day, but didn't get very far. It's not all terrible, but if we are talking about great music - there in none.

That's pretty cold No need for removal - keep it for that occassional dose of "The Love We Make" & "Let's Have a Baby", a little dust ain't never hurt nobody...

Although I think Emancipation is so underrated, I do agree with this Prince mention that occurs later in the list:
Alicia Keys - Songs in A Minor Anybody who sings "A real woman/knows a real man/always comes first," and means it, needs a good pummeling. And we already have Prince to do the Prince songs for us. I'd choose the Artist over the Non-Artist any day. The message you're about to hear is not meant for transmission
Should only be accessed in the privacy of your mind The words are intense so my dear if you dare to listen Take off your clothes Meet me between the lines

I'd choose the Artist over the Non-Artist any day. Sounds to me like they're zeroin' in on one sentence in the entire song and makin' an issue out of it. In the context of the WHOLE song the man knows and puts the woman first too, just as she puts the man first. In fact it is stated so in the song.(see red below) He recognizes and treats her like a queen, values her, knows her worth. The woman likewise. He is her king, etc. Read the entire lyrics below: A Woman's Worth You could buy me diamonds You could buy me pearls Take me on a cruise around the world Baby you know I'm worth it Dinner lit by candles Run my bubble bath Make love tenderly to last a lifetime Baby you know I'm worth it Wanna please, wanna keep, wanna treat, your woman right Now just don't, better show that she is worth your time You will lose if you choose to refuse to put her first She will if she can't find a man who knows her worth 'Cause a real man knows a real woman when he sees her And a real woman knows a real man ain't afraid to please her A real woman knows a real man always comes first A real man just can't deny a woman's worth Mmmmhmmm... Hold up 'Cause if you treat me fairly I'll give you all my goods Treat you like a real woman should Baby I know you're worth it If you never play me promise not to blow off I'll hold you down when shit gets rough 'Cause baby I know you're worth it She walks the mile, makes you smile, all the while being true Dont take for granted the passion she has for you You will lose if you choose to refuse to put her first She will if she can't find a man who knows her worth 'Cause a real man knows a real woman when he sees her And a real woman knows a real man ain't afraid to please her A real woman knows a real man always comes first A real man just can't deny a woman's worth No need to read between the lines, spelled out for you Just hear this song cause you can't go wrong with your values A woman, woman, woman, woman's worth 'Cause a real man knows a real woman when he sees her And a real woman knows a real man ain't afraid to please her A real woman knows a real man always comes first A real man just can't deny a woman's worth Mmmmhmmm...

I think they're zeroing in on purpose, being extra hard on everyone just b/c. I doubt they're taking it as seriously as you seem to be

Emancipation
BUT I wouldnt get rid of it...I mean, come on, it's a Prince album therefore that means it stays on board unlike a...ah, um...teeny bopper CD or Im so hard-look at my bing blang-I got tha hoes & hooches dancing on me CD or the so-called rockers of today CD. ...Now some of those, I could get rid of easily without a second thought. PRINCE STAYS!!! [This message was edited Sat Apr 12 12:05:28 PDT 2003 by CherrieMoonKisses] &

oh...i like U... Thanks for the laughs, arguments and overall enjoyment for the last umpteen years. It's time for me to retire from Prince.org and engage in the real world...lol. Above all, I appreciated the talent Prince. You were one of a kind.

Emancipation is proof of a solo genius at work.
Throw out, NPS, Rave, and Chaos before you touch this gem. ---------------------------------
Funny and charming as usual

Me too, I'd probably place it #5 as regards Prince albums.

The link isn't working.
In any case, I don't agree with the assessment that "Emancipation" has no keepers at all. There is a lot of cheesy fluff, but it has many classic songs.

One Hundred Albums You Should Remove from Your Collection Immediately "# 36 Prince - Emancipation hmmm, actually that is what i think --- Well you have bad taste just like the person that made this list. The second disc is great just for the love songs alone. It is a really good RnB record. I think a lot of people just do not like good old fashion RnB music. Songs that have a beginning a middle and an end. Songs that have decent lyrics that do not constantly degrade woman. It had been a long time since the public had heard anything like that back in 96. The only thing wrong with the disc is that it should have been two disc instead of three and EMI should have marketed more towards an RnB audience and not have been so obssessed with the pop charts. I play stuff from this CD for my non Prince fans and they always wonder why they never heard these songs before.

When the c.d came out it received good reviews. Do I think it is the best CD he put out no I do not. However, it is a good RnB cd and that is the style of music the Prince started with and I think he does this style very well. I think you do not enjoy RnB music and should not be commenting on it. If you think the ballads on the album are souless you just do not know soul. I bet you think Beck has soul!!! (LOL) I bet you think Tom Jones has soul [This message was edited Sun Apr 13 9:50:01 PDT 2003 by laurarichardson]
