Best side projects? What are Prince's best side album projects in your opinion?, eg Sheila E, The Family, Jill Jones, Mavis Staples ect. We're here, might as well get into it.

I used to listen to all side-project quite a lot. And I like all of them. Even Carmen Electra, "Gold Nigga"-NPG, and Ingrid Chavez, which many of you probably don't like. But there are only 2 side projects that I love deeply: The Family and Jill Jones. I can listen to those anytime. And they always make me feel good - over and over again.... I've known about The Family album for a while now, which is great. But I'm feeling this Mavis Staples album "Time Waits For No One" right now. "Come Home" and "Train" are great songs. We're here, might as well get into it.

The Time = my fave. They are fun and funky! Carmen is beautiful (as well as a great dancer) and even tho I didn't dig her album I do enjoy her vocals on the Prince songs she contributed to. It's a hurtful place, the world, in and of itself. We don't need to add to it. We all need one another. ~ PRN

Don't forget Vanity 6 "I like to watch."

NPG's Exodus and Chaka Khan's Come 2 My House are the best 90's ones.

Agreed. . All the Starr Company and 80s PP ones (Prince produced) are just as essential as his own albums imo. I like Ingrid Chavez a lot too, and even Carmen Electra if I'm in the mood, but it's hardly essential.

Gotta be Sheila E. and The Time. Best dance grooves out there! Jill Jones would be next. Mavis sure ain't bad either. Love to dance to 'A Man Called Jesus'!!

You can make an argument that The Time's "What Time Is It?" is the best Prince album EVER...from a production standpoint... Make it so, Number One...

Tough question -- it's either The Time or Sheila E. Two of his longest-lasting side projects (most others were one-offs).

1. Sheila E 2. Madhouse 3. Jill Jones 'Liberate My Mind'

Paul Peterson was completely in over his head, as a frontman.....

I would say overall the The Time 4 really good albums.
However my very favourite album is Sheila E 1987 album. And to think they left the best song off it in Love And Sex.

Exodus, The Time and The Family album are all fantastic. I've never been too terribly in love with the madhouse stuff. Kinda feel like I force myself to listen to it sometimes. It's good to have in the background with friends over or something, not a focused listening. (Insert something clever here)

yep...and even the band members who went on to have sucess during and after The Time, prove them to be his best side act...Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis, Jesse Johnson, Monte Moir, Morris Day, Jerome Benton...the rest of Prince's side acts and singing girlfriends accomplished nothing without him...

Man this just reminds me the sheer volume of music connected to Prince that was not actually released by Prince. Amazing when you think about it. Surely Prince must be up there among the most prolific song writers/producers/performers ever? My Favs are (I think) 1) Sheila E 2) The Time 3) Jill Jones 4) The Family 5) NPG (exodus) However, while not strictly a protege (but still an associated artist with no Prince involvement) my fav is Jesse Johnson. 'I loved him then, I love him now and will love him eternally. He's with our son now.' Mayte 21st April 2016 = the saddest quote I have ever read! RIP Prince and thanks for everything.

The Jill Jones album is fantastic! Could be my favourite actually. Anyone seen the video to "Mia Bocca"?, she was hot as hell! We're here, might as well get into it.

She still is
yeah that album has some vintage Prince prime material etc and it fits Jills voice perfectly. "Climb in my fur."
