Mall of America was built in 1992.

I think one of the things that Keep the movie somewhat timeless is that the clothing doesn't look like anything else but "Princely" from his own realm.

Not 70's, not 80's just Prince's own little world.
That's everyone from Apollonia to The Time. Everyone looks hot as hell.

ya, wardrobe was top notch, had been developing and improving since the dirty mind period for all of them. they say the times first clothes came from a second hand store, i believe that. there is a portion of the 2004 PR dvd devoted to the wardrobe, i think the same lady who did UTCM was there but I thought Prince also had a local black lady who designed some of his clothes too.

Who knows heh, it honestly just recently dawned on me that he never had a real name in the movie, and I have been watching it since the 80's.

Prince would have been a fitting name yeah.

I always felt that the name 'the Kid' was rather demeaning anyway....

You must mean he makes the modern equivalent of those amounts not that those bands made that amount in 1984. Because in 1984, $1000 was the equivalent of $2403.88 today in terms of buying power.

Assuming rent in Minnesota isn't sky high, there's little reason for him to be staying with his folks.

As for his clothes? He either learned how to sew or prevailed upon his mama to alter his clothes when she wasn't pickling all the root vegetables in Minnesota. lThere's no way a 5'1" little dude is going to find clothes to fit him off the rack in 1984 or 2017. The petites section didn't exist then; my momma picked up her winter clothes from the children's department. Wait..

You have to admit, the Kid destroyed YEARS worth of pickles and mason jars in his rampage. I wasn't going for the double entendres but I'm sure after he showed Appollonia the pickles before he showed her the creepy clown collection and played that weird mood music before lighting up the basement like the Phantom of the Opera.

"Where'd you get all the candles?"

"I went through a time portal and filched them from my part time job at Yankee Candle."

"Oh. Where'd you get all the creepy clown masks?

"Those are my grandma's."

Ummm...yeah. That was the actual point of calling him The Kid.

Personally, I just assumed The Kid also had a day job. Because that's the simplest explanation -- and home economics classes WERE offered in high school in the 80's. Hell, we had them in the 90's when I was in high school. And you CAN find some super-fancy shit in thrift stores. It also doesn't take much to learn how to apply makeup yourself, or perm your own hair -- I did that shit all the time, and never set foot in a hair salon until I was in my LATE 30's. So why is any of this a big-ass mystery? Yeesh, people, you gotta get out more. biggrin

I imagine myself inside your bedroom; oh, I imagine myself in your sky.
