I would hope that the Estate know better than to come after fans who are sharing but not selling.
The people who they need to come after, are the people that sell material to Eye Records for large amount of money, and then Eye Records themselves. Basically - if you are making money of Prince bootlegs, you deserve to get shut down. |

It's difficult in that whilst I#d love to see Prince material on Youtube, it doesn't sit right if someone is making money from it that shouldn't be.

the estate just needs to roll out a plan already to start releasing some music themselves, and true love lives on lollipops and crisps

The estate, once they have their internal differences settled, which I hope they can do reasonably soon, can organize their own distribution of Prince's material not under contract ASAP. Do something under the NPG publishing umbrella. If funds are needed for startup costs of whatever engineering need be done to master tapes and establish a distribution system, use a Kickstarter fund to get this going. Heavans knows there are many fans--even some expressive here--who wish to be supportive. In this way they could contribute to establish a new marketplace for these items; donate money in order to see this come to fruition. Paisley Park could throw in incentives from their stock of souveniers and offer touring exclusives to get contributions going toward the campaign. If that is too much for the organization to handle, find an independent label that would be willing to distribute this stuff under favorable terms--there are enough of them around. People begging for the leakers would cease. The f*#kers who sell stuff that they do not own would be put out of business just like that. The random Youtube access would be better contained, and again, profiteers of these postings would be better restrained in order to keep monies going to the actual material source--the way things should f*#ing be! > Once this gets going, the estate might be in a better position to negotiate with the labels who maintain material rights under contract to buy masters/publishing back, or make new distribution deals, and strike better deals with the streaming sevices, who I swear are going to either drain the business dry or change their buisiness model. I guess it would help if the estate had the right attorneys on hand to focus on such dealings. > We can do this if we try, so come on, people! [Edited 7/22/17 13:43pm]

Not interested in leaked songs. Only leaked albums. And even then, it's gotta be the way Prince intended them. The world's problems like climate change can only be solved through strategic long-term thinking, not expediency. In other words all the govts. need sacking!
If you can add value to someone's life then why not. Especially if it colors their days...

So this letter on that "other site" to cease in desist by those brilliant lawyers worked in all our (fans) favor. Within hours, Blast From Past 4 and 5 is leaked and all over the internet. Seriously, if the estates, lawyers, and labels got off their a##es they could put out music in a timely fashion and I'd buy it. But now that its tied up in legal bs, leakers have had there day and the stuff can be had with the touch of a button.

Oh must have changed. Certainly the rate most people on Youtube I know are paid. Approx. £100 per 100,000 views.

If only they would spend their effort on decently quality archival releases. But no... we are going after the fans again. I suppose it runs in the family.

It's called Prince Vevo Channel and they are releasing good clear copies of videos up on YouTube. There is a rumor swirling that concerts are going up as well.

Yes this is happening. It is fine coming from a certified channel; definitely nice to have Prince's stuff on YouTube for promotion. > However, it is sad to see private channels by random people who have grabbed and edited all kinds of Prince's a/v stuff that they did not shoot themselves nor paid a license to publish that bugger up the internet, creating a bad environment. And every time the cease and desist orders are served and folks like msyself speak against the illegitimate practices, a protest from a faction arises on the thread to defend the illegitimate posters as "a really great idea that would be stupid to shut down" deemed "a little piece of the owners' profit siphoned off for the sake of 'estate advertisement.'" Well, sorry, not sorry--however small you might call it--it is stealing. The estate eventually will do what it can to shut it down. It is only the right thing for them to do.

People upping tracks from the two BFTP releases that they think are worth hearing are doing a good thing. I am not sure if I have the time and energy to wade through 8CDs of material, trying to decide whether Eye Records' "remastered versions" are worth keeping or not. The sets have good stuff on them, but there's plenty of horseshit on them too.

. Are you seriously suggesting that fans need to pony up money in advance so the estate of a multi-millionaire pop star can start organizing and finalizing thousands of recordings? Seriously? .
. "Hey, pay us so we can start working on getting that sweet sweet music out there in exchange for cheap tat!" Seriously? .
. They'd need millions in advance funding. Like I've said before: only a major player has deep enough pockets. © Bart Van Hemelen
