1985 Rolling Stone interview

In the September 12, 1985 Rolling Stone interview, Prince spoke about being depressed after Dirty Mind. When asked the source of the depression, according to the article he stated: “A lot also had to do with being in love with someone and not getting any love back. And there was the fact that I didn't talk much with my father and sister. Anyway, a lot of things happened in this two-day period...". I know Dirty Mind was released in 1980, any ideas/speculation about who he was referencing when he said being in love and not getting any love back and the situation around the “2-day period”?

Let me understand this. In 1985 he referenced a ‘2-day’ period from 5 years prior? Must have been a hell of a two day period! As for the love… it was said he had a crush on Patrice Rushen early on, IDK.

Yep, and said he didn't really want to talk about it.

i didn't then, and don't now care much for his love life, it may have been family or female. what stuck with me most was what he said about the band members not wanting to carry their weight, i would learn through all the ensuing years just how hard it is to get musicians on the same page without raw power and leverage.

.

Very good interview. I love that interview because Prince was just being himself. I loved his openness and honesty.
