. This thread kind of seems like pointless negativity, no? I mean, it's probably falling down the charts? Because less people are buying it? But to make a thread about it tanking, and how people don't love him anymore, and it's sad...feels like a weird choice. Unless it's a joke? You are choosing to 1. reach those conclusions, and 2. share them. . It's a reissue of an album that's 30+ years old. What's it supposed to do?

there is almost no promotion! There is no mention I can find on the WB records site. Nothing in the news section and in the Prince section it links to Art Offical Age! "Keep on shilling for Big Pharm!"

People keep comparing it to Sgt. Peppers Reissue, but let's face it guys: the Beatles are far more popular than Prince ever was. U fall in love 2 fast and hate 2 soon
And take 4 granted the feeling’s mutual

There was no promotion for this project at all and considering WB did not spend any money on it I am sure they made a tidy profit.
Prince sold the most albums last year so at this point the public may not see the need to purchase anymore of his music and the masses really have no idea about the tracks that are on the disc.

Warner Brothers spent a buck fiddy producing and marketing the remaster. To them selling 50000 copies is a huge success.

For WB, I'm sure they expect this will accumulate sales every year for years to come and with the deluxe version they now generate more revenue per sales.

We just have to get used to it guys; just as in life and now in death, Prince is ignored.

Yes, it is I will bet it will be the best selling releash the have all year.

This project will sell many more copies in the future. It will be a consistent catalog seller, like all the classic albums (Thriller,Sgt Peppers, etc).Still, the lack of promotion by Warners is disappointing.

Keep in mind that there were a lot of Purple Rain albums sold after Prince's death. Those casual fans don't need another Purple Rain album some 12 months later. Regarding WB not making money on this release, they have more than recouped their costs on this release. I don't buy that no other Prince albums will get this treatment, perhaps more limited versions including items that will push the price point higher. Look through the archives here and knock yourselves out on some the stuff that gets Deluxe reissue treatment. http://www.superdeluxeedition.com In the meantime I'll wait for it to reach the bargain bin to replace my pirate copy. Prince is a musician not a lifestyle.

lol. Trollin' dirty. (Insert something clever here)

This is just proof that most people today don't know how the music business works anymore. They spent a minimum amount of money producing this, they had possession of these tracks in LA and simply ran the ones Prince didn't send them through a very uncomplicated mastering process that probably took less than a week to do. This set will produce streams and sales in perpetuity, this is cold hard cash and profit for Warners that they don't have to promote or advertise for it to reach the top of the charts with albums that have had massive promotional dollars spent on it. They don't care that it dropped, they already made a major difference in this quarter sales from the 1st week sales.

You are correct. Remember even Prince said he was number one at the bank even when he was not number one on the chart.

Sets like this don't usually get a major promotional campaign (since super deluxe editions are considered a niche market) but the 2CD edition will continue to be a consistent catalog seller like SoulAlive mentioned, as long as Warner Bros. keeps it in stock in stores and online over the regular CD version.
They still should've put more effort into letting people it was coming. Like having a segment on the Today show or teaming up with MTV Classic for some sort of "Purple Rain" day of programming. "We may deify or demonize them but not ignore them. And we call them genius, because they are the people who change the world."

There are way more casual Prince fans than us hardcore types. And PR is a niche release in a lot of ways, so I never expected it to break any chart records. Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

. No promotion? I see promotions everywhere. Facebook, Twitter, eBay banner ads, ads on news sites. I think what you are all missing is how online advertising works. . If you don't have enough interest in Prince, you won't get the ads. . And for those who steal it, YOU are the problem. . Welcome to "the org", laytonian… come bathe with me.

Last time I checked it sold over 20 million copies, I think it's doing fine.
