Anyone else underwhelmed by Wally? After decades of hearing fables about this legendary, rare, mythical track (not to mention Susan Rogers' bemoaning about the emotional depths of it), it's not what I thought it was. It's ok. Decent. Grateful to hear it, despite which version this may or may not be. I think I built it up more in my mind. But it wasn't worth the hype. IMO

It's probably because this version is not the original one, but a rerecording with new lyrics. While the song is great, IMO it suffers from what Susan described as the "destruction" of the song, with loud overdubs of horns, keyboards, drums and guitars which get in the way of what is supposed to be a heartfelt piano ballard.

It's pretty kitschy. | |
