I play guitar and was intrigued by how amazing of a guitarist he was.

The theater in the city of St. Cloud was playing Purple Rain that week so we decided to go. I didn't know anything about the movie but was blown away by it. What a performer. Lol at some of the acting (Apollonia). But the movie was awesome. The theater was packed and people were cheering once Prince appeared. When "I Would Die 4 U" was performed.......towards the end of the song when the lyric is repeated over and over......I lost it, sobbing uncontrollably. It was very surreal. I hadn't followed his career at all but felt something inside.....like he wrote this song knowing when he was gone that it would touch people in a way that cannot be explained. Also the moment during Baby I'm a Star when the camera shows Morris and Jerome jamming to the music really got me, too.

I don't know what makes people flock to an artist when they pass away. I even waited two months before buying my first P album to see if this interest would wear off, but it didn't. I only recently got into Bob Dylan's music (about 5 years ago). I probably would have done the same thing if Dylan would have passed away and if I hadn't been into him before. I'm not sure what drives that interest......a hipster thing to be a part of something or what, I don't know. I now own 21 Prince albums....started with Purple Rain.....listened to it for about a month straight then started from the beginning with For You and working my way forward. I'm on Graffiti Bridge now. I also have watched Cherry Moon and Graffiti Bridge and SOTT. Just finished Mayte's book.

We visited the grounds of Paisley Park last August and all of the memorials and tributes were amazing. Last month, we visited the Kiowa Trail site and being at the gate with the heart and peace sign (well, a Mercedes symbol? Why didn't he ever fix this?) was very dreamlike being at the place where he lived during that early 80s run of music. We then did the VIP tour of PP. Very awesome. I didn't read anything about the tour beforehand and was a little shocked that the urn was on display in the atrium. The soundstage is absolutely massive, wow. The Bentley and Plymouth Prowler were in there. The recording studios were really cool. I would think they would keep expanding the tour to get people coming back.......surely they will at some point let people see the vault, maybe the living quarters, bicycles, tour bus, etc. We are planning our next trip to do the general admission tour, see the Purple Rain house, the Galpin Blvd site, and PR "Take Me With U" train trestle in Henderson.

His death is one of a few moments in my life where I remember exactly where I was when hearing the news (along with 9/11 and another tragic moment in my life).

This reminds me of the day after Prince passed - One of my mother's friends called, knowing I was a Prince fan and she said to me, "He was bisexual," and I said, "No he wasn't" and she said, "He was. He was bisexual, I saw him in the 80's in concert, he was licking all over himself..."
