I would be happy to finally obtain the entire P vocal version of "The Dopamine Rush Suite".

The 2 minutes excerpt leaked sometimes ago is really gorgeous.

Funny how they are justifying their for profit releases as being fan releases. I see the free releases by like those by 4DF and the like as fan releases. I see Eye as cashing in.

But whatevs. I look forward to downloading my free copy when it starts doing the rounds. cool

I dunno, I kinda like the bold, pirate-like statement: "only the Fans can"... Let us not forget that it's still work on their part, I'm not for bashing bootleg labels.

After all, we all owe them the knowledge we have of the Vault. Without them, we wouldn't know zilch about Dream Factory, Camille, or Crystal Ball (or the 1989's Rave, or The Dawn, etc.).

This used to be true. Now we have the internet. We don't need them anymore.

I bought well over 100 very expensive bootlegs between '88-'98. Then I got a CD burner and figured I had enough of a collection to stop buying and start trading with other collectors. Now, everytime something leaks we can all have perfect copies immediately. There is no longer a need for the bootleg for profit market except for those who insist on having a physical copy and don't have the means or where-with-all to make one themselves.

According to the "elite" traders, it is the for profit bootleg market that is preventing them from sharing their secret collections. I'm not sure they are all sincere with this claim, but if true, it's a good reason to hope EYE, SAB & the like shut down and leave the the bootleg market to the fans that trade and share.

I guess it depends on your passion for physical objects. Some bootlegs releases are near perfection, both in terms of mastering and packaging. Next to them, the only redeeming quality (aside from the music) of PR Deluxe is the silver metallic ink finish.

Furthermore, a 320k mp3 will never be an .aiff file. But again, it depends on your love for transients and reverb tails. I don't underestimate the labour of love that a good bootleg requires.
Take the PR Tour Miami soundcheck: I'll be eternally grateful to the people responsible for it. It sounds magnificent. For the moment, it doesn't look like Warner is keen to bring such craftsmanship. That's why I think this Eye Records manifesto is right on point.

You all know this isn't about bootlegs. This is some crowd-funding stuff regarding music by fans. Not once did that flyer mention actual Prince music but is sure repeated "fan" releases a lot.

Um, did you read the flyer? lol

"Like all the Purple Fans around the world, [Eye] is also still struggling and trying to accept the truth.
What a joy and fun parade it was to follow Prince around the world for more than 30 years.
We always Xpected the unXpected - but we never expected this unhappy eneding. It all came to a very sad and untimely end.
All good things they say, never last. The Work Pt. 1 is finished.

SOMETHING BIG IS COMING...

Next to the big loss of the Man, Musician, Artist Prince, it is equally frustrating to see in what state his estate, his legacy has been left. There is no will. There is no direction. Everything is left to deteriorate while some vultures (lawyers, record labels, industry insiders, former associates, and even his family) just try to cash in without compassion, admiration or understand for his Music and Art.

...BUT DON'T EXPECT IT FROM THE "ESTATE".

Where are we now? The fans HAVE been and WILL be the ones to make sure his legacy is upheld properly - and organize his music in Fan releases to give a true historic representation of his live and studio work. We all are the estate. The iState?

We have zero faith in anyone other than us, the Fans, to represent him properly. Time is ticking and nothing is happening.
Instead of taking care that the musical hertiage is safely perserved and can be heard by fans soon, we see legal battles, family fueds, total chaos.

So there is only ONE solution. - It's up to us to do this right: The Work Pt. 2

This is why [eye] will continue to release music by the Fans, 4 the Fans.

If you like and collect pressed fan releases [aka bootlegs]: Cool. Thanks for the support. This is exactly how crowd-funding started and still works. Unearthing treasures can be costly [eye] and challenging, but this is where invests time, effort and money.

If pressed fan releases [aka bootlegs] are not your cup of tea: OK. It's simple to google up a download link. But please accept that other collectors want and appreciate fan releases.
And by doing so, they support the Purple Cause.

Prince's mystique is built on Fan releases.

Fan releases kept his followers following him, even when he was striving for alternative ways and while he went under the radar.

And the future belongs to Fan releases:
Regardless of whether it's a digital release, a CD-R/DVD-R release or a pressed Fan release on CD/DVD:
The legacy will be preserved by "Fan" releases.
We will continue to contribute our part and invite others to do the same: Join the iState.

The legacy will be crowd-sourced.
Enjoy the incredible musical output of historical relevance.
Xpect the unXpected!"

I added that because you apparently can't comprehend that 'Fan releases' stands for bootlegs since Eye Records is a bootleg Prince label.

To be honest I would have assumed "fan releases" were bootlegs until I read that "music by fans" part and then I had to question exactly what is being sold here. There's nothing in that that specifically says this is Prince's music. It sounds very PR-ish, and pulls on the heartstrings of Prince fans, but it's not very specific on what it's selling.

The estate is as much a bootlegger as Eye records or anyone else at the moment. Prince is not here and the estate is not even trying to follow Prince's wishes, not even those he proclaimed most vocally (Spotify, Youtube, etc.). There is no official music anymore. Just music from various sources.

If the estate don't want their potential revenues cut by bootleggers they need to organise, begin releasing vault music and at least attempt to satisfy Prince's hardcore fans.

Cut the vanity projects and crooked lawyers and deliver.
