Prince albums with no tracks that have to be skipped, for me:

Prince

Dirty Mind

Controversy

Purple Rain

Around The World In A Day

Parade

Sign 'o' the Times

Lovesexy

The Black Album

There are some albums with only one track that gets skipped ("Free" on 1999, for example).

Indeed! Those skits are awful on an otherwise really strong album. And you can't even skip them because they segue into the real tracks.

I find Controversy to be one of his most uneven albums as it contains some of the tracks I love the most ("Do Me, Baby" and "Controversy") and some of the ones I find really annoying ("Ronnie, Talk to Russia" and "Jack U Off").

"Delirious" is another track I find kinda annoying in the same way as RTTR and JUO.

I'll ays it... Disc 2 in the Purple Rain reissue. The weaker tracks (KPD, VKC and OD) are still fairly good.

The Undertaker

The Rainbow Children ('Wedding Feast' I hear people shout already, but it's a segue, and I don't mind it at all)

Yeah I agree, but (and I know this is a controversial opinion) We Can Fuck is terrible. The repeated synth ruins it for me.

Not a bad track on any 80s album... although Free on 1999 is a bit weird.

After that, it woud be easier to list the few good tracks on each album than all the bad!! eek

"Condition of the Heart" is a super duper clunker on ATWIAD. That is the first track on any P album that I skipped most every time...just unlistenable. There is maybe one song like that on his first album, but it's his first album so gets a pass there.

I would say ATWIAD is clunkerFULL. But it's songs like Tambourine and Temptation are the key clunkers.

Condition of the Heart, on the other hand, is an absolute classic.

i have loved tamborine since day one and still love it ... temptation is a little uncomfortable but still solid and way better than say ... the entire rainbow children album .. if around the world has a clunker its the title track in my opinion .. but still solid .. i wouldn't skip it

I would add the Black Album but correct answer. People in here saying that albums like HitNRun, Gold, and Symbol have no clunkers? neutral

I think Parade is full of clunkers to be honest. I was actually really disappointed when I got it, because I heard that it was one of his greatest albums, and I don't like 6 out of the 12 tracks on there. The other 6 I love, however, which does balance it out overall to make it a slightly above average album.

Sometimes I think TBA is more hype than brilliance. I find myself skipping songs on it sometimes. TGE is brilliant, but "Shy" annoys the fuck out of me. In fact, I never ripped it to my computer, and I segued the sounds on either side so it blended naturally.

prince is a great album, but "Arrogance" is that album's "Jughead". (Didn't rip those either.) I did think long & hard about prince but had to forego it.

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

  • PURPLERAIN (perfect in every sec.)
  • 1999 (genius at work)
  • SOTT (the best 2xLP ever recorded - too much to handle)
  • LOVESEXY (otherwordly)
  • LOVESYMBOL (killer concept - almost perfect but it deserves as the best from 90's)
  • THERAINBOWCHILDREN (tight pt.1)
  • MUSICOLOGY (tight pt.2)
  • 3121 (princelicious)

No clunkers for me include:

Prince (this is such an exquisite and beautiful sounding record!)

Purple Rain

ATWIAD

Parade

Black Album

Lovesexy (the one track concept works for me!! This one is so easy to listen to from start to end!)

Symbol (I could do without Vanessa though!)

Near perfect (one clunker) includes:

1999 (not a big fan of Free)

Sign (though not a clunker, I pretty regulary skip past The Cross)

Gold Experience (I agree with some other opinions, as much as I have tried, I can't get into We March!)

AOA (not a big fan of What it Feels like, but the rest is amazing!)

I think it's an album that takes time to sink in. It was only after I had lived with it for three years that I came to the realization it was a sublime album. You may find those 6 tracks you don't care for become some of your favourites in the future. That's certainly happened to me with other material.
