There was quite a bit of excitement around Deliverance, so I'd go with new material.

Oh I bitched plenty about the brickwall on HNR .. it's a given when horrible edm is involved but just listen to screwdriver ... brickwalled and ruined to the extreme .. the nu mastering style works best with fake electronic music and ballads ... but nu master a rock song with real live band dynamics and the song just turns to mush ... especially when trying to be as loud as the electronic songs ... if you enjoy the sounds of actual real instruments, moderm mastering is your sworn enemy ...

I think there would be at least 1 or 2 complete new albums waiting to be released. . Prince died in April and I remember that Phase 2 was on the streets in early Dec 2015 and there was a tweet or something from Prince, showing some synth music coming through the mixers at PP from March 2016 and something about the next Phases. . Plus was there not that artwork showing Prince in different eras as each album of Phase was to drop (At least to Phase 5). . And that second so called Third eye girl album, that Prince and Hannah mentioned was in the can by the time Plectrum Electrum came out. And even a live disc of them. . My guess is he would have built a project around the Piano and Microphone tour too. . Plus he was up in there with Judith Hill and they had just finished her first album, although transpired that she was the live in lover by then. . Overall I loved Purple Rain Deluxe, but would love to hear what he was working on in his last weeks alive. Got some kind of love for you, and I don't even know your name

. I think Deliverance is a good model, leaving out the basic shadiness of it. What I mean is that the Deliverance EP is a coherent project with a reasonably savvy marketing approach with a video (cheesy but interesting), website, and statement/philosophy behind it. If the estate or WB could do something similar but better, then they'd be onto something And it wasn't exactly "new" since the material was about 10 years old, so I can see it working for any era. . Do we have any idea how many units/downloads of Deliverance have been sold?

The thing is that to interest anyone in a Prince new release, even a new album, "they" (WB, the estate or whatever) must absolutely understand they've got to promote it with good quality video material. . That's why nobody cares about PR deluxe and why its is a flop. . HNR2 was released in a complete lack of interest, whereas there was already 3 or 4 music video to promote in a tv add (for instance) : SCREWDRIVER, RNRLA, Baltimore, etc. people were unaware of this, because it was unavailable. . What is killing me is that Prince shot EXTRALOVABLE, in 2011, and he really liked the video. If HNR2 was released along the video to promote it, it would have been #1 in the Billboard 200. Universal, who distributes HNR2 didn't invest one penny neither in it. . Prince always had some airplay in Urban AC charts (thanks to payola), and when he died, it was the good timing to launch in this radio format something like BlackMuse. It would have made at least a minimum of interest

PR Deluxe has been out a week! How can it already be labelled a flop? Got some kind of love for you, and I don't even know your name

Where? . I saw a few brief articles about its release and then being pulled. Any interest was largely because it was the first posthumous release.

Midweeks charts my friend, in the 2 biggest markets, Uk and Usa. It sold 150 copies monday in the Uk, and less than 100 copies tuesday, with a total projected sales of 9500 copies. In the US, between 30 and 40k. Eveywhere else, nobody cares about Prince.

True that, but it was eligible for catalogue charts only. At least in my country, it re entered at #29 and since 1984 has sold 75,000 copies. Still #29 is not that high and I bet you cash it will be out of the Top 50 albums next week. Lorde and Ed Sheeran sit at the top - yawn. . Not even on the Itunes Top 100 - yes its a nother flopperoo. Typical scenario, album comes out, first 2 weeks hardcore fans get copies and it drops off. Got some kind of love for you, and I don't even know your name

I'm very pleased with Purple Rain Deluxe and hope that all of the 80s albums get the same treatment. A release of the 1989 Rave Unto The Joy Fantastic album would be nice, too. From the 1990s, a Come and Gold era release would be nice, too. Newer stuff, like Deliverance where someone else had a hand in the production, is of little to no interest to me.

Purple Rain Deluxe Disc2 is outstanding and I look forward to more of the same when the estate gets it's act together. Ideally I would like both new albums and deluxe editions, but I only want to buy it once. Otherwise it will be a case of my pirate copy will do me fine. One thing to me that was ridiculous when Prince was alive is that so much of his released material was out of print. If anyone was newly getting into Prince the only way they could get this material is by illegal means. His entire catalogue should have been available on 3rdeyetunes for download. That is a really "Simple" operation that the estate could put in place to keep some green in the till. I don't use streaming services, but I guess those albums are probably available there now.....
PurpleSullivan said: embmmusic said: Personally the way I'd like to see it done (and I don't think many people would agree with me on this) is to have box sets of album remasters complete with single versions and b-sides and potentially unreleased albums placed in the correct chronological order, exactly like the David Bowie box sets they've been putting out for the past couple of years: . https://www.amazon.co.uk/...00ZXWT4PC/ https://www.amazon.co.uk/...01IRHZO4O/ . And at the same time, start releasing a comprehensive set of outtake albums, ideally grouped by recording session for those tracks recorded outside of Paisley Park, and grouped chronologically for those recorded at Paisley Park. . That for me would be the perfect option, though sadly I don't think it will happen like that. [Edited 6/27/17 23:39pm] The Prince estate could definitely learn a thing or two from the Bowie estate. Annual box set releases with newly remastered material and some goodies thrown in (both of which are tremendous, by the way; I can't wait for the Berlin era one), and various one-off releases (such as the recent Cracked Actor release for Record Store Day) to sate fans in the meantime. It is true the Bowie machine has got the Box releases coming out with Swiss precision announced June-July released September, but it has an inherently money grubbing undertone. The Boxsets are too padded out, often containing multiple copies of the same albums. Also they are bit too cute by half in deliberately leaving some unreleased tracks off so they can be flogged further down the road. They seem to have new remasters every 5 years, which are sometimes released in a multidisc configuration with single track difference of new material. Ironically the most complete reissues prior to these Boxsets were from the little known Ryko label in the early 90s, which included unreleased tracks, which are not inside the current boxset series. The guy who put it together is Jeff Roughvie who moved to Minnesota where Ryko was based, here is part of his insight on working on the Bowie projects for those who are interested. http://www.jeffrougvie.co...y-part-one Here is his hagiography on The Time, purple kool aiders and fams do not proceed beyond this point http://www.jeffrougvie.co...ver-heard/ [Edited 7/1/17 22:56pm] Prince is a musician not a lifestyle.
