For the gearheads out there: the latest video from bassist Scott Devine (of Scott's Bass Lessons YouTube channel) has a hands-on with the bass guitar that Prince ordered shortly before his passing, from Gus Guitars, based on the 'Purple Special' guitar that P showed off at one of his final Paisley Park appearances.

Such a cool design and the video shows the special purple color mix and his symbol in the body! And with Prince's bank, he could have ordered a 5 String also. For those that play bass, would you have ordered a 4 and 5 String?

Like Prince, I strongly believe that a bass has 4 strings. He considered 5 string mutant animals, and rightly so.

read the interview he did for Bass Player magazine (don't have a copy right now). He mentions not liking 5 (or 6 or more) string basses. However, he also says bass is a fish and it is about the base and that Larry Graham is his shining example when it comes to bass playing.

5 string and fretless! Must have been one he borrowed from someone, as I'd never seen that before. I do love Warwick Thumbs though (like he apparently did too)
