Prince and the Revolution, April 3, 1986, The Metro (Boston)

NO SOLICITING FOR BOOTLEGS! Discussion is fine, so long as the bootleg is not being promoted e.g. pre-release; requests/offers to share or copy, and links to download or bootleg sites are not.

This soundboard just hit the streets (again? - not sure). It's a soundboard recording of the Hit N Run Tour, the 2nd or 3rd date in the tour. He plays 2.5 hours and goes through everything!

The sound is a bit off, though. It's stunted at times, going up and down in volume on every other beat early on. It levels out later. While it has good bass to it, and you can even hear him call out songs away from the mic, the treble and high end is piercing at times. There's also a bit of difference in the Left and Right level. I adjusted mine every so slightly to compensate, without really losing anything. I noticed on the Paris bootleg (Funky Party 2 Nite), one channel is thin and tinny compared to the other, which his thick and has good bass in it.

Either way, it's a nice set from early on in the tour. Some of the songs covered are "Alexa De Paris", "The Dance Electric", 11 minutes of "Mutiny (incl Dream Factory, and calls out St. Paul), "Love or $" for over 7 minutes, 12 minutes of "A Love Bizarre" at the end, 12 minutes of "America", over 7 minutes of "Kiss". Even "Raspberry Beret" has the 2nd verse (sometimes later on he skipped it).

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

Oak tree is Morris going solo and also produced by Flyte Tyme;Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis, rivals with Prince at that time, but they were all members of The Time.

Just listened to it, very entertaining show, with some good jamming on some of the songs, America, and love bizarre being the pick for me,but also a great performance of Purple Rain too.

I had not listened to a Parade show in a while. This is HITTIN THE SPOT. Especially this groove on Head... MAN oh MAN... Loving it. I don't mind that the recording is a bit raw in spots -- sounds awesome to me

It's just healthy rivalry, IMO. Prince always wants to be #1, so if Morris comes out doing a new dance, of course Prince is going to try and trump that. He did it on the "A Love Bizarre" performance from Sheila E.'s San Francisco show. "I'm gonna have to chop that tree down!"

I've always loved this show. It may be my favorite of the tour. A few years ago, I was able to tweak it a bit with my own software--nothing professional, of course, but I was able to get pretty good clarity. So, I may checkout this updated release. Thanks for sharing. "Soft and Wet" is just killer.

Interesting that the band did the "Can't nobody, fuck with us" chant from It's Gonna Be A Beautiful Night during Mutiny!

And that transition from The Dance Electric to Under The Cherry Moon is incredible, who knew it would sound so good!

This version of A Love Bizarre is insane!!!!!! headbang

"The Oak Tree" was written and produced by Morris. No Jam & Lewis involvement at all.

On a related note, Prince's wooden leg dance has been revived by Stokely and Brownmark on the current Revolution reunion tour--at least at the shows I attended.
