Purple Cloud guitar

Hi all - thought some of the gearheads might enjoy seeing this pic of my new Purple Cloud guitar, built by the OG Cloud maker, Dave Rusan. This is the fifth Cloud Dave has made, after the original four for Prince back in the 1980s (3 for P personally, 1 for a competition).

More photos on Dave Rusan...ebook page.

It looks beautiful. When are you going to receive it? Bet you can't wait!

Dave just has to do final touches on the electronics and set the guitar up (eg. filing the nut slots to correct depth). Just waiting on the case to be finished, due to a delay on materials. So hopefully should be on its way in the next few weeks! biggrin

Beautiful! I'm surprised/impressed Dave Rusan is building more. Did you know Dave, or did you simply contact him and he agreed?

I got in contact with Dave about some research I was doing into Prince's guitars, and then found out that he was going to start making Clouds again so put in an order quick smart (always dreamed of having a Cloud since the 80s)...lucky enough to be first.

That would be fun to see, though if I were in your shoes I'd probably just be an embarrassing mess of emotion before the camera - weeping with joy as I saw the guitar for the first time!

Beautiful! I'm really excited that you were able to score one of these from the master himself. What are they going for these days?
Do you think you can take some measurements when you get it? Would like to know what the original clouds true dimensions were ( considering that Dave is building them as close to the original as possible ). Would like to compare to Shechter and RareElectric versions.

Sure thing, will do my best to help out! Though it might be worth asking Dave personally, just drop him a message via his Facebook account, Rusan Guitarworks.

I've wanted to contact him before about this but another forum member said he was going to ask (I don't use Facebook). We had a lengthy tread going about the cloud and replicas. I have a Shechter and RareElectric version of the cloud and just wanted to know where they differ in dimensions compared to the real deal. I know the headstock point is longer on the original and it has a wider bevel than some of the replicas. I would like to know what it measures at it's widest point, space between horn and neck, total length and thickness of guitar. More or less we would like this info to be available to let others know how to avoid fakes out there and for historical purposes. There's a blueprint of sorts floating around online but I'm not sure where it originated from. It would be nice to compare yours to this blueprint too. Anyway, I'm a huge fan of Prince and his guitars.I would love to get one from Dave ( $$$? ) to add to my collection and I currently have a new MadCat on order that's going to be here in November '17.

I called him in 95 after the NPG store were sold out. He was more than willing to make them back then. I just couldn't pull the trigger on a guitar that size. I can't afford wall hangers
