The Dance Electric (1984 Prince Solo Version)

This one is the real surprise of the Purple Rain Deluxe Edition. It was a bit of a shock to the senses at first, but now I'm really digging it! What does everyone else think?

it's good, but i wish they would have included the leaked version (pristine of course) with the more prominent guitar. It does have some nice surprises like the additional screams that i never heard in the leaked mix and revamped breakdowns, so its good enough as it is
until then i'll pretend this fuchsia light is god...

i guess it's ok since we have both versions now. but my favorit is the one with drenched in guitar.

this one drones on a bit. it feels like the last few minutes are missing something, they sound too
empty.

probably because we've spoilt it for ourselves listening to a fucking boot all this time lol

I suppose it's a bit annoying because it's built on top of the same backing track. If it was entirely different like the two versions of Possessed it'd be easier to take. Now this is the "official" version and i'm a bit sad because I prefer the other. I'd be happy enough with the full length version with Andre Cymone singing to get a proper release.

I mean, it's still a 10/10 track either way but, yeah, i miss the guitars and backing vocals.

Because people lack the intellectual capacity to stay focused on the purpose of the thread (or come up with anything original, it seems).

Its really interesting to listen to, however I just love the really cool guitar parts and they are either buried or in some cases totally not present on this one! Wendy and Lisa's vocals are missed to, I loved their additions to the second half of the tune

I believe the full length 10+ minutes version was released on the expanded remaster of AC.

I'll check tonight and will probably try to make a mashup of the PR deluxe version and that one to get a pristine version with Wendy and Lisa and the guitars lol

Good luck. Not only do both versions run at a slightly different speed, they also have a different drift (not sure why). So while it is easy to get them in the same key and speed, it then isn't as easy just running them side by side and act like a dj, mixing both sides. Maybe I should quantize the songs and then play around more.

.

I'm sure someone will come up with something fun soon though wink

They're also quite different mixes. This early version is very centric, where as the leaked one has a rather wide spread.

Which leaked one?

The AC version is a proper release as is the new one on PR Deluxe.

The version Questlove posted was just a cleaner version of the widely bootlegged version if you mean that one.

It finally did get a proper release a few years back, on an AC reissue. Why André chose not to release it in 1985 will puzzle me for all times, though.

I haven't heard this yet. But I wonder if they had to use a significantly different version than what was given to Andre Cymone because the master became the property of Columbia Records once Prince gifted the song. Perhaps the estate just couldn't reclaim that version featuring Prince's vocal instead of Andre's (without WB shelling out for a licensing deal from Sony).

That could be why Prince stopped giving essentially completed productions of songs to artists like Patti Labelle after the early 90s. He finally understood what it meant to lose ownership/control of the master recording.

Can someone help me out? Which boot has the best quality version of "The Dance Electric" with guitar solo? I have many boots but quite frankly haven't looked into it enough to figure out which boot has the highest quality version of Dance Electric with guitar. Thanks!
