No review in Entertainment Weekly (30 June 2017 issue), but they did put the album as #1 on their "Must" list at the start of the issue. © Bart Van Hemelen

Although I like what Rogers wrote and the notes from The Revolution, the liner notes are lacking as far as information. I would like to see details regarding the mastering and the sources used. Sure, information regarding the Prince/Welton 2015 master tells us all we really need to know about disc 1, but, more should be provided for the rest. For disc 2 it would be great to know how/why songs were selected, did they go by the dates on the tapes, the dates Prince handed them over, or the memories of those involved? Were they sourced from multi-tracks, mix-downs, cassette (surely not) or some other source? These details would be great, but, alas, they're nowhere to be found. Don't hate your neighbors. Hate the media that tells you to hate your neighbors.

Can anyone who has the 2-cd version let us know if the artwork on the actual discs is the same as on the 3-cd/dvd version (i.e. the "face")?
Thanks!

In the liner notes for Computer Blue, Wendy is hilarious, talking about Big Chick! She noticed him wearing "all too familiar jeans".
That shit is funny. | |

Why am I not surprised? Jill seemed to me to be taken for granted and not given credit 4 stuff. For example; hiding behind the curtains providing backing vocals 4 Vanity 6 on the 1999 tour. Yet she still hung around.

that is the most overwritten, grandiloqent piece of garbage I've ever read, Pitchfork have really outdone themselves there!

Reading all the threads and reactions to PR Remastered makes me happy that I am a newbie or casual or reconnected fan because I really like most of it. I don't want to criticize anyone and there are so many excellent reviews but - I'm glad that I am ignorant enough to just enjoy it for what it is. Damn, people, lighten up!

Yeah, that got on my nerves - I put the DVD and book in a seperate jewel case

I'd love to read the liner notes if someone could post them if it wouldn't get them in trouble. Don't have the funds for the release right now. I'd love to see what was written though. "Why'd I waste my kisses on you baby?" R.I.P. Prince You've finally found your way back home. Well Done.

That is what I do with all my Prince CD's now, they get get ripped once and placed back in their covers. Have done this since I went digital in 2008. Part of the reason why my Flexipack cases for TRC and Musicology look new, rather than battered. Got some kind of love for you, and I don't even know your name

My CD's are all in very mint condition (Musicology, Planet Earth, TRC....): reason why is that I wash always my hands, hold it carefully when using & don't lend it. Reason on top of that, all my collection is from Japan....(despite of course 20Ten, Crystal Ball, Lotusflower, MPLSound....that were not released in Japan). Question, was the lyrics sheet in the original vinyl pressing as unreadable as it is in this one? "Like the drummer said, you got to die."

Yes, CD 1 and CD2 are identical in terms of disc artwork between the 2CD and 3CD versions. However, the booklets and digipaks are very different. "purplelectricity whenever our bodies touch"

Not a word about this release in Rolling Stone's 13 July 2017 issue. (Nor in their 29 June 2017 issue.) . Not a peep about it in Mojo's August 2017 issue. . Seriously, didn't Warners send this out for review? Are we going to get a bunch of them only in a couple of weeks or so? . This is really, really odd. [Edited 7/2/17 6:34am] © Bart Van Hemelen

There's a five-star review online from Rolling Stone, that went up 5 days ago. I first saw it because someone posted the link here in another thread (I don't remember where). Now, as to why it's not in the printed edition, I don't know. The printed reviews have been pretty limited the last few issues, if I remember correctly, so maybe they're just scaling back for the print edition.

Prince's Classic Finally ExpandedThe Deluxe 'Purple Rain' Reissuehttp://www.popmatters.com/feature/prince-classic-finally-expanded-the-deluxe-purple-rain-reissue/
Welton’s remaster is a brickwalled disaster, harsh and brutal on the ears. It is undeniably far louder than the original CD pressing, which may make it seem to pop out with more clarity (especially on subpar audio equipment), but Welton destroyed the music’s dynamic range in the process. It’s a huge wasted opportunity.
The new remaster doesn’t even register on the scale when compared to some of the highest quality reissues in recent years like the stunning series from Peter Gabriel, for instance, or the phenomenal new pressing of Radiohead’s OK Computer. The lavish attention to detail and lovingly produced reissues in recent years by the Beatles, Pink Floyd, Genesis, Bob Dylan, David Bowie and others all blow Purple Rain out of the water, and it’s not even close. It’s an embarrassment.
