Prince's Telecaster

It Says In The Paisley Park Guitar And Bass Book That Prince Got His Hohner From A Gas Station For $30 In The 70's Before He Became Famous And Instantly Fell In Love With It.

THIS is The Hohner From Purple Rain Because The Back Playte Was Place There To Cove A Hole For A Wireless System But Something Went Wrong Apparently Because If You Look Closely During Lets Go Crazy The same spot where the back plate is was taped up with black electric tape the same goes for on the Purple Rain tour so this isn't another copy this is the actual when he was playing from 1981 till now he must have bought this guitar during 1980 sometime between 1980 and 1981 from The Prince and the dirty mind tours because if you look at pictures from The Prince tours and the dirty Mind tour he was playing it during the late half of the prince tour and was playing it all throughout the dirty mind tour and onward so he must have bought it sometime throughout that point when I spoke to takumi he said there's a whole lot of stuff done to that guitar a lot of stuff he I know everything from the pickups all the way down to the parts in the strings on the guitar and the bridge and the neck pickups everything that has done I was done this to that guitar I know

Just like it says.........

I saw him play it during a performance at the 3121 residency at the rio. I was right in front of the stage in front of Prince. I could see the wear and tear. I am sure it has gone for maintenance when needed.

He was partial to it for sure. I loved that it was with him so long. I have heard different versions of the story of how he acquired it, but they are all generally the same as the version above. Some minor details change in the telling of the story, but it's probably fair to say he did buy it locally back in the day for fairly cheap.

Laydown

Many rock gods purchased cheap guitars and made them weep. Most of the great blues legends had the cheapest beat up guitars and made the brand names famous. Kurt Cobain started playing with a crappy guitar and made it scream.

Do a search on the guitar here on this forum. We went thru pages of discussion and facts on his Hohner guitar. You'll be surprised on how long he's had it. My favorite of all his guitars for sure.

THAT BACKPLATE SHOW'S THIS IS THE 1 FROM PURPLE RAIN BECAUSE THERE WAS SUPPOSED TO BE A WIRELESS SYSTEM INSTALLED BUT APPARENTLY SOMETHING WENT WRONG AND THROUGHOUT LETS GO CRAZY IF YOU LOOK CLOSELY AT THE BACK IT WAS TAPPED UP WITH BLACK ELECTRIC TAPE IN THE SAME SPOT SAME AS ON THE PURPLE RAIN TOUR

They were far from cheap even then...they are handmade great guitars. Even back then it was probably 500 bucks new

I'd be really interested in those specs/your progress on that! Maybe as a little video series?
