Yes Clover, that is one way to look at it. But the other way is once you pass over, the money is of no use to you so let nature take it's course. Regardless of religion.

Yep! You can't take it with you! So many greedy people out there. Greed is a terrible thing.

This is a left turn I know but here is an article about Bob Marley who knew he was dying and did not leave a will. Also some interesting estate stuff.

http://www.newyorker.com/...bob-marley

“This will business is a big insult,” Marley’s mother, Cedella Booker, told a Washington Post reporter in 1991, as his estate navigated its latest set of legal challenges. “God never limit nobody! Jah never make no will!” Neville Garrick, a close friend who designed many of Marley’s album covers, mused in the 2012 documentary “Marley” that it may have been the singer’s final test, one in which “everybody reveal who they really were, you get me? Who really did love him, who fighting over the money.” It would have been out of character for Marley to neatly divvy up his property. “Bob left it open.”

.

Sad story. I think his religion does not believe in having any Wills. It's not in their belief system.

.

I think James Brown's family are still fighting over his estate too; it's a mess. disbelief

Are you serious? JWs don't believe in having wills? eek smile sad

JW do believe in wills this is not ture. Rastafarians apparently do not believe in wills. Also James Brown has a will with a video and still some of his greedy ass children have contested it and have continued to file suits against the charitiable trust he set up. They cannot get that money and they do not want to see poor children get any.

Nothing is full proof if you have idiot and greedy family members.

Our lawyers advised that we specifically EXCLUDE BY NAME in our end-of-life documents anyone we did not want to benefit. So that is what we did.

Sounds like a good idea. In the James Brown case I believe he left nothing to some of the children and they became enraged and have been causing trouble with meaningless lawsuits.

In Ray Charles case he gave 11 children 1 million a piece and they felt that was not enough. Maybe a clause saying if you bitch you get nothing would have worked.

There might be clauses like that. If you contest it you get zip.

Judge Eide ain't playing today. Fined 3 for not redacting their submissions. It appears the second appeal by Brianna and her neice has been dismissed. Tomorrow, the Appeals court will hear oral arguements in their first appeal. Hopefully, that will be dismissed as well and closed one more appeal. Though I guess they can go higher in the system.

I found the Mayte thing interesting. Comerica has been granted access to the sealed divorce records to obtain information about a pension fund that Prince was a beneficiary. Could that be John L's pension?

Go, Judge Wide! The pension theory sounds correct, if John L retired from Honeywell, back then a pension was assured. No telling if it is still solvent. Hope so. The Estate needs all income it can get.
Hope the appeal sticks. Those two need to take a seat. Those lawyers can't be cheap, unless they're the kind who say 'You pay nothing unless you win.'

The spawn of Duane can forget it. Probate laws are not going to be changed so associates and friends of decesed people can inheirt money. I hope if they lose this appeal the ambulance chasing lawyers drop them as clients.

Why would John L's pension be in Mayte and P's divorce record? John L was still alive when they divorced.

I am not saying it was John L's. I was guessing. Maybe Prince had to list all income coming in during the divorce and Prince listed it as possible income since he was a beneficiary? The lawyers trying to maximize Prince's wealth to generate a higher settlement?

Trying to connect the dots.

It may have been listed as an asset as you have to list all your assests and Prince may have been the sole beneficary of the pension or one of the beneficaries.

How could it be an asset, if his dad was still alive?

It could very well be P had a retirement account of his own.

In the dissolution it may have been agreed upon that M1 would get 1/2 of her marital interest in P's retirement account.

The attorneys want to look at the language of the Dissolution Decree to see what is specified.

It may very well be that M1 is going to get some $$.

A pension could come from a union -- and Prince was a member of at least one (screen actors guild)

M1 was not married to Prince long enough to qualify for part of his pension. I believe you have to be married at least 10 years to qualify. I think the pension was Prince's and the estate is now entitled to its proceeds.

There is no specified number of years you must be married in order to be awarded 1/2 of your marital interest in a spouses retirement.

Okay, give her a tiny break, she worked. I'm nosy though because if it is hers then she did get more than the house. But it's more than likely his from something. Kind of curious.

She did not work for that pension. It could be his from SAG or one of the musician unions. I do not see how she would get anything unless he made her a beneficary as a part of the divorce settlement which would mean all her bitching about not getting any PR money was true ignorance. If he left her money she should be ashamed of herself.

It must be the day, because I am so sick of the travails of the settlement of the estate. Normally, I am up for discussion, but Prince deserves better than the squabbling that is going on. I know - he left it this way - but enough already. P.S. I know this is going to go on for years. I'm ready, but tired of it.

I'm wondering why Comerica knew about it but Bremer's didn't. I thought stuff like this was handled long ago?

Bremer was incompetent. Comerica is know dealing with amended tax returns going back a few years and Breamer was his wealth management firm for years.

I honestly think that if so many other suits were not caused by Lonnie that Coamerica/Estate would have good case for suing Bremer. At what point is it incompetence or fraud?

As we say in our family, once you get married, you just gave up 50% of everything that was yours.
