Possessed - best version?

I've been a bit obsessed with this song lately: I loved the slower bootleg version, quite liked the live version, not so much the instrumental. So it's been a very pleasant surprise to hear the Deluxe version which, while is the instrumental with vocals, I am absolutely loving. I still think the slower bottlegged version takes the edge though.
Any thoughts?
(I hope that we are allowed to discuss individual songs, the Sticky is quite hard to navigate at the moment!)

I'm agreeing with you. While I haven't listened closely to the deluxe version, the boot version is my choice.

My vote goes for the slower version.

I also like the 1984 released version, but I find it less accomplished than the earlier version.

The 1984 is a really good song, the 1983 is a lost masterpiece.

deluxe version, hands down. the 'original' slower version we've had for eons now,
and the live version, i never cared for. one of the very few prince songs that i did
not like and never felt the need to listen to.


this new version tho omfg i love it, start to finish. instant classic. very happy music

I still enjoy the version that's still an outtake more, but the released version is more interesting.

Deluxe version, but maybe that's because i've grown tired of the bootleg mix after hearing it many times. Deluxe is a nice surprise and currently it is the version i have on heavy rotation, but the original is good too
until then i'll pretend this fuchsia light is god...

The PR Deluxe version is a GEM.

That being said I wouldn't say no to a pristine release of the earlier version biggrin

Seems they're not listening to anything we want given the garbage they've just served up to us.
