I'm excited to listen to this set. This tour is my absolute favorite. I've listened to the Stockholm boot so many times. I haven't spent much time with my Prince collection since his passing. What boots have the Yokohama show mentioned above? (MODS: I AM NOT ASKING FOR BOOTLEGS. I AM JUST DISCUSSING.) I want to check to see if I have it. My memory is just failing me. I'll do some Google searching later today, but I thought one of you experts might be able to give me an answer quickly. Or let me know if there's a generally preferred bootleg of that show.

"The Final Parade" (Zion-086) - Newer bootleg
"Septembre" (#PR-6991/6992) - Classic Bootleg

THANK YOU. I don't include the dates or locations when I enter my boots into iTunes, which is stupid and makes it hard for me to find things if all I have is the city. I searched by title and I do have Septembre. Excellent. Thanks again!

"Rainmaker" has leaked in MP3...

.

Quick listen:
- Damn, the August 1983 recording is a disappointment.
- The Feb 1985 one is not that great, an often really unbalanced mix with Prince's voice too much to the fore, but still is interesting.

- The jam on disc one sounds intriguing.
- Great qulity for the rehearsal.

.

Yeah, this version of First Avenue is definitely lacking. It's better-ish but still quite mediocre. Glad I didn't pay for this.

Honestly speaking, I think that sound is improved & you don't have this sound distortion @ the beginning of Let's Go Crazy, When You Were Mine & Purple Rain...

Per Nilsen documents that sort of thing in his DMSR book. Princevault probably does, too. I think it's always interesting how Prince started to put new songs into a tour that was still going on for the previous (or current) project. We know he was dead tired of Purple Rain by the middle and end of that tour. So I'm not surprised we heard things like "Temptation", "Raspberry Beret", and "4 The Tears" in it. Although "4 The Tears.." was on the USA For Africa album, and that was the early part of 1985, so it worked out to be a released single at some point.

__________

As far as the Rainmaker release, wow. Just wow. The soundboard for the shows we've only heard via VHS, or not at all, are pretty fucking amazing. I remember how excited I was when the 1984 birthday gig at First Avenue (with the premiere of "Our Destiny" & "Roadhouse Garden", and the recording of "All Day, All Night") came out in soundboard. It was such a treat. I feel the same about this set.

I sometimes wonder if people close to the estate or whoever is leaking this thing. I mean, you can't put everything on a CD and sell it. So, it serves a better interest to leak other stuff around the time of Purple Rain to not only get some music out, but moreso to make that sacrifice of vault material without a price tag, to keep the interest of Purple Rain Deluxe going. Like creating momentum and hoping for good inertia to carry sales along for a while. It's one theory, but that specific stuff leaking now? More than a coinky dink.

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

Fuck, we're getting old. I remember looking at these people collecting Beatles stuff at fairs and such back in the nineties. Grey hair and wrinkles....that is becoming us now, soon.

Still. It is good to find "new" stuff from Prince every now and then. I hope to hear it.

Seriously? First it was Prince, now his estate? Does this BS never stop?

.

Let's see, what is the more likely scenario: the clueless estate leaking some specific tapes they found amongst the massive archive of apparently unorganized recordings, or bootleggers sitting on these tapes waiting for a long announced release that isn't filling the hunger of collectors?

.

Oh, and yes, you CAN release everything. Bob Dylan: The 1966 Live Recordings. Yes, that is a THIRTY SIX disc box set, "featuring Every Known Recording from the Artist’s Mythic and Controversial 1966 Tour of the US, UK, Europe and Australia". And also: "Bob Dylan – The Cutting Edge 1965-1966: The Bootleg Series Vol. 12": "Ultra Deluxe 18CD Limited Edition [...] Includes Every Note Recorded in the Studio During These Renowned Sessions"

.

So if you're a fan of Dylan from his 1965-66 period, you can listen to FIFTY FOUR discs of studio and live recordings.

.

And yes, those releases were in part to beat losing the copyrights, but they still exist.

.

The 1983 recording is in mono, and the sound is suffering from serious noise reduction. So no, it is nowhere like the revelation of the 1984 birthday show.

God, you're as easy to trigger as Trump. I said, if you'd read fully instead of jumping to type and try to correct someone on the internet, "I sometimes wonder if..." I never said it was a fact, or that my theory was true. I was conjecture, an idea. You've heard of those, right? Free thought. It's an amazing thing, Bart. Try it sometime.

Shame about the First Ave '83 show, because while the hella overaggressive NR applied to it renders it tinny and difficult to listen to..... it's still so much clearer and not distorted when compared to the Moonraker boot, or the Makings of Rain DVD. A missed opportunity, but I'm still glad to have it. You can't undo the damage, but perhaps some eq-ing can make it more tolerable to listen to, at least. I hope we'll see a non-noise reduction copy of this soon, because while it's definately not on the level of the '84 Birthday show soundboard, it's a step in the right direction. Even with the blanket of NR, I can hear lots of details in the mix that the previous versions (both audio & video) lacked. Now, to listen to the '85 show. Thanks to whoever free'd all of this stuff, regardless.
