The Vault. Everyone knows the vault. There might be something like 750 - 1000 tracks of unreleased material, maybe more. The complexity of selling this eclectic amount of music if in album format of say 15 songs each album would take a decade or two to release,at least. As a Prince fan Ive wondered and contemplated the vault and its likelihood of it one day being opened for us who love Prince and want his legacy to continue although Prince is not here with us anymore,RIP. There are so many avenues one can take to see the legacy of Prince is a lasting one, even if there are no releases from the vault his legacy will last forever anyway, his prolific and profound music is pioneering,to say the least. The Estate and UMG are going to have to settle their disputes, one day. Im confident this dispute will be resolved but im unsure of when. No matter how much time passes I will always want to hear the vault for Prince music is never dated or old or boring. Princevault have a section dedicated to unreleased projects, all these projects are part of the vault, this music is music the Princevault is aware of. Im certain there is much more music in the vault that we are all unaware of,given Prince and his privacy and his mystique. People such as Susan Rodgers,Femi Jiya,Hans Buff, Sheila E,Kirk J,and Alan Leeds would all be privy to knowledge of the vault considering the amount of time they spent with Prince in the studios of Paisley Park. These people mentioned could and would be the best people to see the release of the vault without exploiting Prince music or his legacy. Exploitation is something of concern. I just hope whoever does release the vault wont do what they did to the legacy of Jimi Hendrix, tainted his music by remixing it and selling it for profit. Sure record companies want to profit but if that means churning out crap, then I wont buy it.All in all,Im saying release the vault without fucking it up. .................................................... They won't flood the market, decades is more likely. I believe WB will try to release at least one box set by the time they lose the chance. Princes music is not a major priority right now. The family should just create an indie label or use one to distribute releases. Vault material isn't going to bring new fans & that's the simple truth.

Of course there's more...it's staggering to think of how much is probably in there. Not to mention Jams, rehearsals and covers.

Which is WHY they MUST brig back the NPGMC. As sad as it IS.. General Public isn't interested..but us Hardcores would pay an astroomical amount for a monthly download service of 2 or 3 new tracks, a video or performace pluse a podcast/radio show once a month.

Indie label is excellent. No new fans,I agree.

THEN MAYBE once a year.. they could take those Yearly NPGMC downloads and produce a Public release of those on CD.

Cool. Hope someone who has the key to the vault is taking notes.

. DECADES?! Absolutely not. Perhaps they will have various re-reissue campaigns over the decades, but all the vault music to be released will have to be released loooong before that. . Two reasons... . (1) Because the vault material will not bring new fans is exactly why they have to start getting it out sooner rather than later. Many of the people that would buy the vault material are over the hill and may not last decades. They elderly are not known to be rabid consumers. . (2) The decision makers at WB and UMG "record company X" will never sacrifice perdictable sales numbers now for an uncertain record industry future. Nor should they. They want these releases and sales figures to come out during their time at the helm. It's in their best interest and in the best interest of the record companies as well as the estate.

Genuine (and I mean genuine, not deluded bandwagon jumpers) hardcores with even half a brain cell, and who have been burned too many times before wouldn't go anywhere near a monthly download service never mind pay "astronomical" amounts for one.

Way more than 1000, heck there was verified 1000 I think by 1989. Most of the songs in there we have never heard the titles of. "You always get the dream that you deserve, from what you value the most" -Prince 2013

I have said this before in another thread: they must do what ftd records is for elvis fans. A record company that releases 4 to 5 cd's each year. They started in 1999 which is 22 years after elvis passed away. I hope with prince they won't wait that long. The cd's are distributed via fanclubs only. Not to the general stores. They have issued more than 150 cd's by now and they involve three categories: - reissues of all of his albums with extra previously unreleased tracks from the same sessions - concerts - outtake cd's concerning specific recording periods not really related to any album This would be awesome also for prince music. And with graceland estate working together with PP something like this should be discussed already I think.

I think the difference would be that it wouldn't be run by Prince and his peeps. Prince was brilliant, but running websites wasn't his jam.

I would love that. I was daydreaming about getting Prince's version of all the girls songs, Prince's versions of songs with his lead vocal "guide" tracks....etc. I will pay!

it's all speculation; imo 500 real unheard studio songs (not counting jams, live, ..) is absolutely the max.

My preference would be:
STEP ONE: Release Piano & Microphone live CD/DVD
STEP TWO: Release DELUXE re-mastered re-released albums of every Prince album from FOR YOU to THE GOLD EXPERIENCE INCLUDING all relevant re-mastered b-sides and unreleased songs from the same sessions as well as one live album from the corresponding tours.
Then,
STEP THREE: Release three or so albums a year of assembled tracks, jams, legendary concerts, etc.

It is the ONLY way to monetise and viably release all that material. It's reported Prince recorded around 300 new songs with 3RDEYEGIRL alone. How many casual fans have the appetite for even this, which is only a fraction of what is there. If the estate do not create a premium subscriber service for hardcore fans, I fear much of this material will never be heard.

If it was organised and managed professionally I would subscribe to it, even though I've belonged to all Prince's previous music clubs. Without some sort of premium subscriber service most of Prince's later music will never be released. [Edited 6/14/17 11:22am]

they will be concerned with "fixing" the material ..when they should just release it as is..

remixing his work will be a travesty. ..................................................... 'I know I shoudnt put my faith in heroes but I cant c u any other way' RIP P

Yeah but one man's gold is another man's turd. The quality (of the songs not their sound quality) will be subjective just as all the officially released music was. If you prefer funky Prince but the vault was mostly rock Prince then you won't be happy (for example). [Edited 6/16/17 0:31am] 'I loved him then, I love him now and will love him eternally. I'd like to see the music come out in the order it was put in, not pulled from here and there.

Im pretty much a completist and I agree moonsister. Miles Davis Estate did just that, all in order and complete box sets.

THAT is probably the "safest" way to put it out as nobody can really argue with chronology. If songs are grouped "thematically" or configured into what people think of as unreleased albums (Camille, Dream Factory for example) then some will still argue that Prince is not here to make the decision on final song list. The problem, for me, of chronological is that it could be stylistically jarring as we know Prince was recording multiple "projects" at once. At the end of the day, I just want it all 'I loved him then, I love him now and will love him eternally. He's with our son now.' Mayte 21st April 2016 = the saddest quote I have ever read! I think with Camille and Dream Factory those albums were already sequenced by Prince and ready for release but rejected by WB.
