Well there you go. Of course, this will be disputed by those who believe they know. But the hope would be this ends the debate. Again, I doubt it will though... |

You've been here since 2002. Do you really think that's how it works around here?

I don't understand why people are convinced some masters have come from bootlegs.
.
After all, where do you think some bootlegs have come from... the masters - albeit stolen!!!!

I mean, it is good to hear that confirmed from someone who we'd trust on this issue. Where people thought it was mastered from otherwise for this is puzzling to me. Did someone think folks were using APE or FLAC files or something? Gheezus.
We did have confirmation from Bernie Grundman himself that Dirty Mind, Controversy, 1999, and Purple Rain (2011) were remastered from the originals, and that he himself did it. It's good to have this note about this deluxe package. I'm not sure how much this and the BG edition will differ in sound, but I am sure the Org will fill up with endless notions and opinions about it.
If the people running Prince's affairs know anything (or even Prince himself), it's that the Prince fanbase is a tough one, but a lot of times it's in love. People love the music, and want to see it done right if a remaster happens, or a deluxe package. Prince fans aren't idiots (mostly) when it comes to knowing outtakes, earlier better sources of leaked tracks, etc etc. All anyone has to do is follow those trails, confirm them, and then make good decisions about distributing music from here on out.

Exactly. Seems perfetcly logical to me. As a matter of fact, the "sound quality" issue isn't different then other historic, officially released songs when P was alive ("Little Red Corvette" is a glaring example). But again, straight from someone in the know won't be good enough for some of these "fans" in here unfortunately... |

I don't think anyone has said Prince approved the PR Deluxe discs past the first disc have they? (Other than fans just blathering I mean). |

Pretty sure in was stated at one time, but don't have a link. It was certainly said about 4Ever.

Not sure this is always the case. Don't know if it's so much about "love" then about inferred entitlement and outright arrogance when it comes to supposed knowledge of Prince's works. It's like we can't just enjoy the soundscape without some in here thinking because it's not "perfect" in their opinions it's garbage or trash...unfit for release. It'd be frustrating as fuck if I didn't already know its coming and therefore condition myself to tolerate its ignorance. This set is something we as fans have been waiting for for some time. It should be celebrated and not condemned. I mean DAMN!! Some are condemning packaging they have yet to physically feel or see. It's fucking crazy. But lately on these boards, unfortunately crazy is the norm... |

I'm fairly certain we can safely assume Prince didn't approve tracks like "We Can Fuck". But does that really matter when the argument is about sound quality and the perceived source of material? So to your point above, I'd concede that as fact. Still does nothing to further any arguments about source material... |

I tried to make this exact same argument and I was shot down for my "lack of technical knowledge". It's retarded. Shit had to come from somewhere. But to think officially released tracks could ever come from a bootleg source? Stuck on stupid... |

I didn't say "bootleg source".
And why would masters & bootleg be the only options. Perhaps WB is in possession of unreleased tracks that are non-master copies. This is what I, and many others believe.
I've never made the case that WB got the tracks FROM a bootleg.

That's why I purposely said "most times". Agreed that there are those who are always in a pissing match to see who knows more about a song or a time frame down to the second of when something was recorded, who was there, and who just took a dump in the downstairs bathroom at Paisley Park in between takes.
I nerd out on times or versions, etc., but ultimately as long as I can hear the music, that's all I care about.

Uhhhh...I think that's pretty much the definition of "bootleg."

Nobody thinks the masters come from bootlegs. That doesn't even make sense. Hey loudmouth, shut the fuck up, right? |

Uhhhh... no.
If WB is in legal possession of mixdowns, acetates, alternate album cuts, etc... those tracks in their possession would not be "bootlegs". What they vaulted from their time in business with Prince is personal property that belongs to them, Prince or jointly, depending on their contractual agreements and precedent.
Using them would not be sourcing from bootleg, it would be sourcing from non masters.
This is not the same as claiming they used a FLAC file from a bootleg they downloaded.
