I think Erotic City was inspired by Genius of Love by the Tom Tom Club Prince, evidently, was a pretty big Talking Heads fan. In warm up and sound checks he used to routinely pepper his warm up songs with snippets of Once In A Lifetime. He also loved the song Burning Down The House
Erotic City, to me, sounds like Genius of Love in parts.
What say you?? | |

What say you?? I thought he once said during the George Clinton induction that he listened to George play then wrote Erotic City that night. I could be wrong.

"Wonderful Ass" sounds a lot closer to "Genius Of Love" to me

Nah, and it wasnt the fabled George Clinton show that inspired it. "Climb in my fur."

Prince and Sheila E went to a George Clinton concert and after the show Prince was so influenced by what he witnessed,he and Sheila went into the studio and cut Erotic City. Parliament/Funkadelic were a major influence in Prince's music, theres no doubt to it. Anyone thinking otherwise has no idea.

. And it's pure coincidence that it sounded like Laid Back's "White Horse" which was already a club hit. Sure. © Bart Van Hemelen

About 10 yrs ago I made a funk CD that had Erotic City, Flashlight, Genius Of Love, White Horse & Cold Blooded (Rick James) on it & everybody loved that CD, thinking about a new play list now.

i've always thought talking heads was a huge influence on p's early sound. some of their (p's and talking heads) tracks could mash-up seamlessly....

Yes, it does. Listen to the intro keys to WH in the video posted. Same intrumentation lol.
EC is damn near a straight rip. Maybe he was influenced by Clinton for that high Camille shit portions to it but the instrumentation. So what if he simply changed the key..come on yall.
And yes yes yall, we know the lore, the statements, etc etc etc
and that shit doesnt add up to a hill of beans (Rick/Casablanca) because we all know what Prince said and the truth 'both have four letters' aka.....
"Climb in my fur." | |

I guess if you wanna get Technical David isn't in the group, but that is accomplished by him going backstage at shows. Have you not scene Stop Making Sense. Either Way Genius of Love is The Tom Tom Club.

. NO THEY ARE NOT. Sheesh, TTC is 2 people, half of TH. And for a loooong time Tina and Chris haven't been best buddies with David. . BTW the word is "seen" not "scene", and even though they performed a TTC song during that concert it doesn't mean TH = TTC. © Bart Van Hemelen

I personally think that musically Genius of Love has way more in common with Erotic City than White Horse.
