Which format of Purple Rain Remastered will you be buying?

I'm just wondering which format of the new phone Purple rain remastered set will everyone here be buying? And how many copies. I have already preorderd the 3 CDs/1 DVD version .I will soon be ordering the vinyl version and I'm contemplating ordering the picture disc too.
Also I will probably buy a few copies to give away to friends and family members.

The 3CD/DVD set. The picture disk isn't remastered, and pic disks are usually gimmicks, and not great on sound quality when compared to regular vinyl pressings. (Some make the same arguments against colored vinyl, but the picture disk makes way more sense in being inferior quality.)

If I'm feeling frisky, I might get the 2-CD set just because. I will definitely get the remastered vinyl. (Ironically I saw the 180gram remaster from a few years ago at B&N today; along with the ATWIAD & Parade remasters, and the few 12"'s that came out remastered, too). So in short:

3CD/1DVD - Yes

2 CD - Yes

vinyl remaster - Yes

Picture disk - Yes

12 singles - Yes

.

.

Can someone explain to me what the difference is between the new remastered vinyl and the 180g remaster from a couple years ago? I am not sure if there is a difference...

All I know is the 180g Vinyl was remastered in 2011, and the one being released in June is a remaster from Paisley Park from 2015.

Im getting the 3 CD, 1 DVD set. I do like the idea above of having the pic CD made into a clock (or something else?). Otherwise i never really saw the point in the pic discs, colored vinyl etc. Although i can see why serious collectors would be keen on owning them.

3CD set definitely and straight away

DVD of movie less likely

DVD of concerts - likely

Later on, unless well off - Vinyl reissues.

Got some kind of love for you, and I don't even know your name

The 2009 Rhino release was a remaster, according to Discogs. It's noted as "180 gram remastered release by Kevin Gray @ Acoustech Mastering, pressed at RTI."

This is similar to the reissues of Dirty Mind, Controversy, & 1999 in that that were "Mastered at Bernie Grundman Mastering from the Original Tapes". (PS Dirty Mind sound fucking fantastic.)

Presumably the 2015 remaster was overseen by Prince himself, or someone he endorsed to do so for this project. Unless there was special or extensive or very different remastering, I'm not sure how the two would be that different. Perhaps technology had changed enough in four years to warrant it, or more likely that Prince wanted to have a more direct hand in this package since it was sort of a special deal overall (as part of the WB deal, and the anniversary, etc).

Discogs doesn't mention this year's pending release because... well, it hasn't been released yet.

in the Netherlands the difference between the 2cd and the 3cd/1dvd versions is 4 euro, which is about 4,50 dollars. I can't think of one reason why anyone would choose the 2cd edition.

so 3cd/1dvd it is smile

Wow, what a "fan".

I'll be picking up the 3CD/DVD set at Best Buy or Target the morning it is released.

Although I bought The Hits 1, The Hits 2 AND The Hits / The B-Sides because of my collector obsession, I'll be skipping the 2 disc set this time...

I'm not in a hurry to get the vinyl, I have a 1st pressing and still haven't picked up the 180gm version. Maybe someday.

Picture discs are never meant to be played, merely collected and/or displayed. I have sold off all but a few that I've owned and don't feel the need to buy this one.

I don't have a CD version of Purple Rain, so I'll get the 3CD set, even though the pointless disc will get very little play.

I'll also probably pick up the new vinyl version out of curiosity, even though I have an original vinyl copy that sounds really great.

Picture discs are one way to guarantee buying a shitty quality product. They are less than useless to me, so I'll be body-swerving that one.

Everybody that says disc 3 is "useless" must not want digital copy of God Instrumental or Another Lonely Christmas Extended that's not a needle drop.

Probably the double CD and only because of the outtakes. If they released those on a seperate CD, that would be perfect. I haven't listened to the Purple Rain album for ages simply because I've heard it too often. So there's a chance the first CD won't ever leave the box, but I'll probably be jamming to the second CD a lot.
A CD full of single edits and outtakes is useless if you already have the 12"s.
And I always found the Purple Rain tour the least interesting tour he ever did, so I don't expect to be watching that Syracuse DVD an awful lot either...

I have needle drops of both that sound EXCELLENT... and I still want to replace them with digital copies.

I already have everything else on disc 3 on CD releases but only because I have Ultimate & I've collected those expensive import CD singles from 1989/1990. Not everybody has those, so, it seems to me this disc is an obvious plus to have it all together, in one cheap package.

I paid $12-15 a piece for those import singles, collectively way more than this entire set will cost, so, I don't see the complaints. Of course there's a disc that collects the singles/b-sides, both edit & extended. If there was not, lots of people would complain about their omission.

I honestly don't know what format I'll get. I kind of can't believe they're not releasing the show on iTunes. I guess they still might, so I'll probably wait.

It would just be a waste to me personally to buy a cd/dvd set. My dvd player isn't even plugged in (for some reason my cable has to run through that port) and I never play CDs, can't even play them in my computer.

Your TV only has one input?!? Even most cheapo sets have at least 2 inputs.
