First off, Prince only submitted the first disc which was Prince's remaster of the album from 2015. I fear that WB is going to brick wall the sound of this disc in a bid for the loudness war. Now onto the outtakes. Out of the eleven tracks, only five tracks are connected to the "Purple Rain" project. "Computer Blue" ("Hallway Speech" version), "Fathers Song","Electric Intercourse" (studio),"Possessed (1983 version)"-side note- this 1983 version is false. In actuality, its the re-record from March 17th,1984. How can they get this information wrong. They're Warner Brothers for christ sakes."Katrinas Paper Dolls" was recorded for "Dreams" before the project was renamed "PR". The song is a somber piece in a sense, and was written when Vanity was connected to the project in early 83. Katrina was Vanity's characters name and in real life Katrina was Vanity middle name. It tells the story of Katrina the makes paper dolls for each day that her "Mans been gone" but comes to the realization "That loves just a game" "But thats what makes the world go round". "Wonderful Ass","We Can Fuck", "Love and Sex", "Velvet Kitty Cat","Dance Electric","Our Destiny/Roadhouse Garden"(Dont even get me started on that botch job)."We Can Fuck" is very similar to the "Graffiti Bridge" version of "We can Funk" and even contains a lot of vocal and instrumental phrasing. The first half of this ten minute versions is very similar to what we know as the album version of "We Can Funk". The real magic happens around the 6:10 minute mark. Im not gonna explain it because its best to leave that as a surprise. "Fathers Song" is absolutely beautiful. I recommend for the first listen, to late at night burn a candle put on a pair of headphones and just reflect on what Prince meant to you."Wonderful Ass" is the very first version of the track.What I really dig the most is the vocal delivery on the "educate, tolerate, negotiate, communicate". The vocal delivery is more heart felt and energetic. Also added to the fact it has some real complimentary synth lines that are used for dramatic effect. As cool as the track is, I can say the 86 rerecord is the strongest version of the song. "Velvet Kitty Cat" is the circulating version from 19 April 1983. The 1985 version is a complete 180 of the track which is similar to Jerry Lee Lewis'"Whole lotta Shaking going on". Whats criminal is that "17 Days (Extended)" is not on this release. It's basically two and a half minutes that are after the fade of the song and features a cool keyboard solo, some added guitar parts that complement the track, and a repeated "Let the rain come down" with more emotion put into the vocal delivery. The "Lust U always (Instrumental) previously called "Divinty" In the late 89's- side note-theres some information that suggests that it is not titled "Lust U always (Instrumental)". The other big crime is that it does not contain the original version of "Purple Rain" with the missing version. As it stands theres three versions(outtakes) that exist. The original version of "The Beautiful Ones" . Theres is numerous outtakes I can site that should've been on this release. I'm still looking forward to this but a lot fans would agree that its a missed opportunity. What does irk me the most is the "Possessed"being stated as the 1983 version. So many fans will buy this release and think its the 83 version So why the goofy track list ? All of these tracks come from the Warner Bros. vault. Every song that Prince submitted is in the WB vault. The problem is they do not have the recorded masters for any of these songs. Also add to the problem that they can't access Prince's Vault, due to the fact that theres several bids being taken into consideration from several private companies that do nothing but preserve the masters, by baking tapes to make digital transfers, and cataloging everything Including private videos Prince made of concerts, rehearsals, soundboard shows etc. I'm not going to mention the name of the person who selected this goofy track list but this was also the same person who placed "Moonbeam Levels" on the"4ever" release. I hope this post is helpful and I want to thank Alex for defending Uptown magazine and writing two incredible books that shed a lot of information that was unknown. Indeed... I am very intrigued for We Can F*ck, though... Can anyone clarify the Possessed situation, though? Is this the same version (edited to be shorter) than the one in Perfect Unreleased Prince or is it a different version? | |

The trouble as the same for Moonbeam Levels is that WB don't have access at all to the Paisley Park Vault.....this is pure Anarchy right now around what's going on at the Estate sInce the beginning and even more these latter weeks 》WB can only pick up mixdown versions in their own Vault ...this is where the outtakes come from for the second CD of PR Deluxe! | |

 Mathieu Bitton And let me counter that by saying that this isn't entirely true. No one had "Electric Intercourse," this version of "Katrina's Paper Dolls," " We Can Fuck," and the incredible movie version of "Father's Song." I can't get too into it but don't forget the family also had a say and although yes I'm a professional and have worked on over 800 albums, reissues, boxed sets, dvds etc, I am also a fan and did consult on this project. You obviously have heard the music and I agree with you that Father's Song is the most amazing thing on there. There is also some amazing (never seen) visual stuff that I helped provide and more priceless stuff in the packaging (I'll let that to WB to reveal). Let's down attack my friend who produced this either, I'm sure you have some idea of what it's like dealing with anything Prince related? Never easy, in life or death. And I have first hand experience in both. Have a great day.

I know we have that in pretty decent quality but I was hoping for something even cleaner. This version should be cool anyway.tbh kinda excited to get the full version of that 2 min snip of the Wonderful Ass demo soon and FINALLY the 1984 Possessed until then i'll pretend this fuchsia light is god... | |

No Purple Rain remaster is worth its salt unless it contains everything that was edited out for length reasons. Computer Bue extra verses, beautiful ones extra verses, purple rain extra verse, etc. All the songs on that album, in tact, unedited, would be such an incredible listening experience. The 'studio demo' has been widely circulating for the past two to three years, primarily as part of Blast from the Past 2.0. Prior to that, it was a slightly out-of-reach rarity among tape traders, and began circulating around 1988. Due to generational loss, playback is slower. It is an authentic, only very loosely mixed version of the song with the string section added over a partially overdubbed multitrack from the 8/3/1983 show. The final album version received some more backing vocal overdubs, edits, processing, and is of course properly mixed (some backing vocals muted/lowered, most of Lisa's OBXa muted, etc). The opening solo on the album version, which (with white noise) hides the edit, is derived from an isolated track of Wendy's playing during [0:21-0:38], which seems to lay to rest earlier speculation that the album version's opening was recorded entirely anew in the studio. Note the added/unused overdubbed guitar flourish around ~7:53. . [Edited 6/3/17 23:13pm] | |

I have to note about this studio version. The First Avenue VHS is warbly in spots, and the reverb in the place makes it a little difficult to process aurally when listening. Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking. |
