Variety Article (new): Exclusive Preview: Prince’s ‘Purple Rain’ Deluxe Edition, With Previously Unreleased Tracks

source

a snip:

In 2014, he signed a much-ballyhooed new deal with Warner Bros. (the label that nurtured his career and that he later accused of making him a “slave”) granting him the rights to much of his 19-year catalog with the company. Yet this 30th anniversary deluxe edition — due on June 23, available in single, double and four-disc incarnations, and which he oversaw before his death — is only now seeing the light of day.

...

And what treasures lie within this gloriously overstuffed collection, which contains the first substantial dollop of material from the vault — a full 11-track disc of contemporaneous unreleased songs — along with rarities, remixes and a DVD of a long-out-of-print complete concert from March 1985? Plenty, but first some perspective: Few albums measure up to “Purple Rain,” and fans should not expect the new material here to compare. Not much does.

Plenty more behind the source link. I snipped the first paragraph above because so much has been debated about the 2014 WB deal, masters, and PR deluxe. This article backs up what I've said, and many others have stated as well before me.

I love the synergy of PR being released, again, in June, almost to the day that the original was in 1984 (that being June 25, the movie came out in July), despite it being 33 years later.

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

I think that the mods are going to lock this thread and re direct to the general Reissue thread. However, as we approach the release date more reviews are going to come out, so it would be a good idea to re-name this thread and make it a sticky. Just a thought, mods 😜

This is the most promotion this remaster has gotten since it was announced. Kudos Variety. I hope many more publications will follow suit.

haha anyone remember that time someone quoted a person from alt.music.prince about using Sharpies when Sony tried to install software on PCs secretly when someone played one of their artist's CDs? It's an interesting world now.

As far as the thread being locked - it might be, might not. I'm just providing a link to a new article. shrug It's six of one.

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

Place your bets, folks. Odds 2:1 this thread will be locked, 4:1 langebleu locks it, 3:1 that another mod does.
