Nothing custom made, overly expensive or unattainable

in the 80's a pro guitar was around a thousand, i remember because i was a musician trying to figure out which instrument to take on. I never liked guitar for a couple reasons, one, it was to hard getting a perfect chord out of it and 2, there were tooo many good guitarists anyway so it seemed like a waste of time.

actually there is a story that in poplife wb bought a whole crew of gear for his band when they were starting out, i guess somewhere around 78-80 and they were all stolen when someone left a warehouse unlocked. Rumours were that Prince may have set up the robbery himself, at any rate, wb bought more instruments for a full band and put them all in Prince's name. Those were truly his asshole, machiavellian days for sure, he made lots of enemies.

In many ways, that guitar represents who Prince was as a person and an artist. Came from nothing, but he his fate, talent and work ethic made him truly great. I get so proud of him when I think of things like this. So many musicians rely on the state of the art instruments and tools and Prince played better solos than anyone in the history of the world with a used $30 guitar. I believe that God provided him with that guitar. "I want to be the only one you come for...."

Pepe Willie said Prince left the door open at Del Tire Mart which is were he decided to keep the equiptment. If anyone stole it I would say Andre since he is constantly bragging about how much stuff he used to steal.

really? when did andre brag about stealing, i'd hope he'd have more sense than to brag about being a thief.

Andre said he was a project boy and he use to Hotwire cars and go joy riding taking Prince along and that he use to shoplift and even stole musical equiptment. He said Prince's mom use to ground Prince to try and keep Prince from hanging with him. [Edited 5/31/17 13:58pm]

I was there at PP when George Lopez was there. Someone told me he had shown up and demanded a private tour and our VIP tour kept "bumping into" his. .

No it is not but he also bragged about his brother Eddie being a pimp. Something else he could have kept to himself.

oh yeah, i remember the hotwire thing, i thought he was just trying to make himself look bad. truth is, compared to real ghetto's minneapolis just wasn't like that at the time. I remember rick james said something about how hardened the men in his band were and that the guys in prince's band were soft and didn't want to fight.

ya, sometimes people like to repeat something and do it in a way that makes a person sound like a jerk, either way, i was sold on lopez when he gave money to help with expenses after P's death.

. Yea, Prince & Andre lived in the good part of town, LOL . Oh, Rick James had some funny stories about Prince. I'm sure you've seen them on YT. Rick wrote in his memoirs about the time he tried to pour some liquor down Prince's throat, because he thought Prince was too "straight" or something, LOL . I miss Rick; such a talented and funny dude.

They all said there said if town was rough. I even remember on the Red Bull series Terry Lewis discussing Sonny Thompson and the Family and how the whole band carried guns and how Prince played with these guys from time to time. . Yes, and George Lopez paid for Prince's cremation, which I thought was kinda weird. .

. Yes, but they did not have money for a cremation? Do you know who paid for the autopsy? . I mean, where was Larry Graham and the JW? Don't you think they should have helped with the expenses? . I just thought of all people, why George Lopez? . Don't get me wrong, it was nice what he did, nonetheless.

I think George Lopez is funny but, let's be honest, his visit to PP hardly qualifies as news.

carrying guns doesn't make a man tough. Minneapolis is probably a lot like seattle, we have a lot of guys who want to play the role but seattle ain't no ghetto town. the people who come from places like chicago just laugh at them.

I got the impression that Northside is the hood in Minneapolis. I do not think carrying a gun makes a man tough but using one is a whole different story. What T.C Ellis said they had a lot of pimps and a lot of gangsters would come to Minneapolis to retire so the Northside had a gangster vibe and he said you could see that in Prince's mannerisms.

I know from own family that most people have life insurance and that funeral directors usually handle burial arrangements in lieu of insurance money that is forthcoming. I am not sure if Prince had life insurance or not but crementory might have required some money upfront. I know that Tyka said that Prince told her he did not like drama or fuss as far as funerals were concerned and that he did have Ahmir cremated so it is possible that is what he wanted. I think Grorge may have offered to help so we do not know if the family went him directly or if he contacted them via Sheila E.

i imagine that's true, prince did have a lot of classic black archetypes at work in his act. I used to think when I was young that he sounded like those black kids that hung around white kids. Like in PR where he says "motherfucka" he says it in cringworthy fashion, like he's trying to sound black. That was a rare thing though, most of the time he had no problems with it. Who knows, peoples accents change throughout their lives. They say Elvis had already started losing his country accent by the end of 56. Anyway, like I said, i'd think minneapolis is like Seattle, the black community here is a black community with all the shared common history and culture but it ain't no ghetto and it's almost laughable to see really when some kids try to act like it is. It's kinda sad too because well, kids being kids, some of them try to live up to that stuff they hear about and see on the rap videos. [Edited 6/1/17 9:54am]

I think the cringing is due to a midwest accent all of the Minneapolis guys have it. Even Jimmie Jam and Terry Lewis said that got tired of people making the assumption that they were white boys or had easy in Minneapolis.
