There is a guy that I believed worked on the guitar over the years and he stated it was cheap but Prince would just have it repaired. Also how old are you prices 40 years ago were much different than today. I have a friend who brought a guitar from Sam Goody in the 80s for $50.00 bucks.

in the 80's a pro guitar was around a thousand, i remember because i was a musician trying to figure out which instrument to take on. I never liked guitar for a couple reasons, one, it was to hard getting a perfect chord out of it and 2, there were tooo many good guitarists anyway so it seemed like a waste of time.

actually there is a story that in poplife wb bought a whole crew of gear for his band when they were starting out, i guess somewhere around 78-80 and they were all stolen when someone left a warehouse unlocked. Rumours were that Prince may have set up the robbery himself, at any rate, wb bought more instruments for a full band and put them all in Prince's name. Those were truly his asshole, machiavellian days for sure, he made lots of enemies.

ya, sometimes people like to repeat something and do it in a way that makes a person sound like a jerk, either way, i was sold on lopez when he gave money to help with expenses after P's death.

Oh, Rick James had some funny stories about Prince. I'm sure you've seen them on YT. Rick wrote in his memoirs about the time he tried to pour some liquor down Prince's throat, because he thought Prince was too "straight" or something, LOL

I even remember on the Red Bull series Terry Lewis discussing Sonny Thompson and the Family and how the whole band carried guns and how Prince played with these guys from time to time. carrying guns doesn't make a man tough. Minneapolis is probably a lot like seattle, we have a lot of guys who want to play the role but seattle ain't no ghetto town. the people who come from places like chicago just laugh at them.

I got the impression that Northside is the hood in Minneapolis. I do not think carrying a gun makes a man tough but using one is a whole different story. What T.C Ellis said they had a lot of pimps and a lot of gangsters would come to Minneapolis to retire so the Northside had a gangster vibe and he said you could see that in Prince's mannerisms.

i imagine that's true, prince did have a lot of classic black archetypes at work in his act. I used to think when I was young that he sounded like those black kids that hung around white kids. Like in PR where he says "motherfucka" he says it in cringworthy fashion, like he's trying to sound black. That was a rare thing though, most of the time he had no problems with it. Who knows, peoples accents change throughout their lives. They say Elvis had already started losing his country accent by the end of 56. Anyway, like I said, i'd think minneapolis is like Seattle, the black community here is a black community with all the shared common history and culture but it ain't no ghetto and it's almost laughable to see really when some kids try to act like it is. It's kinda sad too because well, kids being kids, some of them try to live up to that stuff they hear about and see on the rap videos.

I think the cringing is due to a midwest accent all of the Minneapolis guys have it. Even Jimmie Jam and Terry Lewis said that got tired of people making the assumption that they were white boys or had easy in Minneapolis.
